(Minghui.org) When my wife and I were arrested and sentenced for our faith in Falun Gong, my 90-year-old mother was left alone with no one to take care of her. She passed away in fear after witnessing time and time again the police raiding our home, and suffering the sorrow of missing her son and daughter-in-law.
While serving time in prison, my wife was subjected to various tortures. When she was released, she was extremely weak, and died shortly after at the age of 57.
Since the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation practice, in July 1999, millions of practitioners have been arrested and jailed for their faith. Countless families have been forced apart, and children separated from their mothers.
At least 106 practitioners over age 65 were persecuted to death between 2018 and 2020. Another 350 were sentenced to prison, 1,694 were arrested, 807 had their homes raided, and 870 were harassed. How many of them were mothers!
For example, on March 30, 2021, Ms. Zhang Shuxiang, a 73-year-old Beijing resident, passed away, two years after she was taken back home by an ambulance. She was arrested on June 21, 2017 and sentenced to three years in Beijing Women’s Prison. The torture in prison left her bedridden. After she was released on April 3, 2019, the local authorities continued to harass her, and suspended her pension, which eventually caused her quick death.
Another practitioner Ms. Chen Suzhen, a Yingkou City, Liaoning Province resident, passed away on January 24, 2021 at the age of 73. She was not able to see her daughter Bian Aina and son-in-law Lou Yuejun during the last moments of her life, as both were still incarcerated for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Jiang Li, in her 40s, lived in Gujiao City, Shanxi Province. Practicing Falun Gong turned her into a different person, who was filial to her parents-in-law and considerate to her husband. The family was happy and harmonious. She was arrested in late December 2020 when visiting her parents at their home in Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province. Her mother was dealt a huge blow with her arrest and suddenly passed away.
Ms. Wang Jin, a 58-year-old Kunming City, Yunnan Province resident, has been detained since her arrest on November 27, 2020. Frightened by the police raid of her home and grieved by her detention, her 89-year-old mother died on April 5, 2021.
While some mothers were overcome by the mental pressure and grief, some took a courageous stand and worked hard to seek justice for their children.
One case example is Ms. Yang Jing’s mother, who is in her 80s, and is still appealing against the arbitrary detention of her daughter. Ms. Yang, of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. She was arrested at her home on March 13, 2021 and her arrest was approved one month later on April 19 by the Wuhou District Procuratorate.
Another mother, Ms. Liao Guanghui, 68, was sentenced to three years for practicing Falun Gong by the Peicheng District Court. The Mianyang City, Sichuan Province resident suddenly fell into a coma on March 10, 2021 and treated in an intensive care unit. When her son saw her at the hospital on March 14, her head was wrapped with gauze and she was on oxygen. He called her, “Mom! Mom!” But she didn’t respond. Ms. Liao now remains in a coma and her family has no way to know what torture she has suffered that caused her to be in such condition.
Twenty-two years have now passed since the onset of the persecution. Amidst the ongoing persecution in China, It’s good to see that the international community has gained a better understanding of the evilness of the Chinese Communist Party and stands up against it.
Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State, openly condemned the CCP’s persecution of religious freedom on multiple occasions. He said in a media interview, “I’m confident that this pressure that is now on the Chinese Communist Party is real, and not just because leaders are demanding it, because people all across the world can see it. The true face of the Chinese Communist Party has been exposed.”
For all the mothers who have or are being persecuted by the totalitarian Party, I believe justice will soon be held and a new era without communism is coming.
