(Minghui.org) When a 71-year-old woman was indicted for practicing Falun Gong in late 2020, the prosecutor recommended a sentence of 2.5 to 3 years in prison.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Suqin, a native of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, moved to Shunyi District in Beijing to take care of her two grandchildren when their mother (her daughter), Ms. Cheng Xiaofu, was serving a two-year term for giving out flyers bearing information about Falun Gong.
In April 2020, Ms. Liu was arrested for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Although she was released on bail that time, the police took her into custody on September 29 and said her case wasn’t over yet. While taking her away, the police dragged her so violently that her shoes fell off.
Ms. Liu is detained at Shunyi Detention Center. The guards refused to accept the clothes and daily necessities her family sent her, and they only allowed them to make a cash deposit for her.
The Shunyi District Procuratorate approved her arrest on October 22 and indicted her on November 10. Ms. Liu’s lawyer repeatedly called the prosecutor, Geng Huihui, and tried to visit him in person, but Geng never responded to him.
Ms. Liu’s lawyer was later allowed to review her case documents at Shunyi District Court in April 2021. It’s not clear whether the court has scheduled a hearing.
Ms. Liu’s arrest and detention dealt her husband a heavy blow. He sometimes fell into a confused state and also suffers from urinary incontinence and low urine output that has caused swelling in his lower body.
