(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old Changsha City, Hunan Province resident was transferred to prison on April 1, 2021 to serve a two-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhou Deyuan was arrested on the evening of October 21, 2020 while walking on the street with a friend, Ms. Li Lan, who also practices Falun Gong. While Ms. Li was released after ten days of administrative detention, Ms. Zhou was put on criminal detention after her 15-day administrative detention expired.
Ms. Zhou was later sentenced to two years. She was transferred from the Changsha City No. 4 Detention Center to the Hunan Province Women’s Prison on April 1, 2021.
Ms. Zhou took up Falun Gong in 1998. She credits the practice for curing her many ailments, including a heart condition, stomach problems and headache. Her impatient and hot temper was also changed. Many vegetable vendors near her home appreciate doing business with her, saying that she rarely tries to bargain with them and is very polite.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Zhou was arrested in March 2014 for spreading information about the persecution and was later sentenced to three years. She was abused at the Hunan Province Women’s Prison and developed a serious medical condition. She was hospitalized twice and underwent a hysterectomy.
