Ms. Yan, 50, was at one time the director of her neighborhood Party office. She became a Falun Gong practitioner in 1996. For the next three years, she repeatedly won performance awards at work, served as deputy to Langli Town People's Congress, and was a member of the National People's Congress.

Ms. Yan was forced to leave her job after the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999. She was sentenced to six years in Hunan Province Women's Prison. After she was released, she opened a small hair salon and earned a meager living. Ms. Yan is being held at Changsha City No. 1 Detention Center.

More than ten officers broke into the home of Ms. Zhou Deyuan. They first searched her house and confiscated her Falun Gong books, two computers, a printer, and many personal possessions. She had had uterine cancer and lost all her hair during chemotherapy. After she began practicing Falun Gong in 1997, all her diseases disappeared, and her hair grew back black. She was fired from the corporation in 1999 because she would not renounce her belief in Falun Gong. Practitioners Arrested on March 30

Officers from Jinpenling Police Station and the Changsha County Domestic Security Division arrested Ms. Zhao Yalin at home at around 2 a.m. Ms. Zhao, nearly 70, is a retired teacher from Changsha University. Police ransacked her home and confiscated a printer, computer, and other personal items. Ms. Zhao is being held in a detention center.

Police Deny Responsibility

Many weeks have passed since the March raids, and there is no news on the detained practitioners. Their families and friends went to the respective police stations and requested visits and their relatives' unconditional release, but to no avail. The officers claimed that the local police were not behind the arrests. They said the recent arrests were high profile cases being handled directly by higher authorities, and the local police had no say.

The Changsha City Domestic Security Division coordinated and led the raids; the Changsha County Police Department was in charge and issued the criminal warrants. Every police station in the district was involved. In addition to the above-mentioned seven practitioners, three others are missing: Li from Changsha County, a practitioner from another city doing business in Changsha, and Liu Zhengwei.

Since the CCP began the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Falun Gong practitioners have peacefully and rationally worked to stop the brutality. They produce informational materials at their own expense to dispel CCP propaganda and explain the truth about Falun Gong to people. However, the truth is what the CCP dictatorship fears the most.
