(Minghui.org) A Xinxiang City, Henan Province, woman is appealing a three-year term for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. Two more local residents, including a man in his 80s, are now awaiting verdicts for their shared faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Guo Shengli, 70, was arrested on October 15, 2019, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, a photo of Falun Gong’s founder, several memory cards, and cash.

The police initially gave Ms. Guo 15 days of detention in the Xinxiang City Detention Center and then released her on bail after forcing her to pay a 5,000-yuan bail bond.

The Weihui City Procuratorate approved Ms. Guo’s arrest on December 24, 2020, and ordered the police to take her back into custody that same day. She was re-admitted to the Xinxiang City Detention Center

Tried in the Weihui City Court on March 9, 2021, she was sentenced to three years and fined 3,000 yuan on March 29. She has appealed to the Xinxiang City Intermediate Court.

Two other practitioners in Xinxiang, Mr. Zheng Jiajin, in his 80s, and Ms. Zhu Fenglan, 66, were arrested on August 28, 2020, for making informational materials about Falun Gong. Their computers and printers were confiscated.

Mr. Zheng was later released after being denied admission by the local detention center due to his health. Ms. Zhu has been held in the Xinxiang City Detention Center. They were both tried in the Hui County Court on February 23, 2021, and are awaiting their verdicts.
