(Minghui.org) A man in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, was detained for 15 days last year for his faith in Falun Gong. He is now suing the police for the arbitrary detention and demanding they erase the term of detention from his record.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Guo Wen, a retired government employee, was informed by the Chifeng Supervisory Commission on September 25, 2020, that his retirement benefits would be suspended because he practiced Falun Gong. He filed a motion to have his case reconsidered.

On October 27, 2020, he was arrested on his way to work and given 15 days of detention because, he was informed, his motion to reconsider the case contained information about Falun Gong.

Mr. Guo filed a lawsuit against the Bairin Left Banner Police Station with the local court on January 28, 2021, demanding the judge rule the detention illegal and that the term of detention be erased from his record. The Bairin Left Banner Court turned him down on April 8, 2021.

Mr. Guo appealed with the Chifeng City Intermediate Court. The judge assigned to the case held a hearing on September 15 and ruled to uphold Mr. Guo’s appeal, ordering the lower court to re-try the case. The police representative didn’t attend the trial.

Mr. Guo took up Falun Gong in 1995 when he was on the verge of death due to severe cirrhosis and hepatitis B. Only days into the practice, his symptoms disappeared.

After the persecution started, Mr. Guo’s wife Ms. Wu Guohui suffered for refusing to give up their shared faith in Falun Gong. He was terrified and stopped practicing. In 2005, his liver issues recurred and he was hospitalized again. With no other option, he resumed practicing Falun Gong and was back on his feet days later.
