(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 21 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 36 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Nanyang City, Henan Province] Mr. Chen Xinnian Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison
Mr. Chen Xinnian from Tanghe County was arrested on February 16, 2019, and detained in the Tanghe County Detention Center. The detention center recently contacted his family and informed them that he’d been sentenced to seven years in prison and was now in the Zhengzhou City Prison.
2. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Ms. Jing Jianqiu and Ms. Zhou Xiyun Face Trial
Ms. Zhou Xiyun and Ms. Jing Jianqiu from the Shangjie District were arrested by officers from the Guangwu Police Station in Xingyang City and will be tried on January 7, 2021.
3. [Qingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Jiang Li Arrested
Ms. Jiang Li was arrested near her mother’s home in Qingyuan City on the afternoon of December 24, 2020. Local police in Qingyuan City, police from Gujiao City of Shanxi Province, and police from Fushun City, Liaoning Province, carried out her arrest. Her relatives learned that she had been taken to Gujiao City the day of her arrest. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
4. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Wang Yumei Arrested and Detained
Ms. Wang Yumei from the Nanshan District was arrested at home by Nantou Police Station officers on December 15, 2020. She was detained for 15 days and released.
5. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Fenglan Arrested and Released on Bail Pending Trial
Ms. Wang Fenglan, 59, from Duozhuang Town was arrested by three officers from the Jiepai Police Station including Gong Piwang at around 8 a.m. on December 4, 2020. While they were filling out her arrest form for criminal charges at the station, she fainted, and her son had to take her home. He returned to the police station to apply for her bail pending trial.
Ms. Wang faces trial. She has left home.
6. [Chongqing] Mr. Xie Jin Harassed
Mr. Xie Jin works at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He was harassed by a Huangjuya Town Police Station officer in the Nan’an District and four or five security staff members at the university on December 23, 2020. He was ordered to sign the three statements, which he firmly refused to do.
7. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Wang Yu Arrested and Detained
Wang Yu (gender unknown) was arrested on January 2, 2021, for distributing truth-clarifying materials. The practitioner was dragged to the Jingxiu Police Department on Longxing Middle Road around 2 p.m. and taken to the Baoding Detention Center that night.
8. [Shanghai] Ms. Wang Jingwen Arrested
Ms. Wang Jingwen, 77, lives in the Sun City Garden Community on the Henan South Road in the Huangpu District. She was arrested at home by seven police officers around 9 a.m. on December 4, 2020. They ransacked her home and took away Dafa books. She was taken to the Yuyuan Police Station. The next day she was taken to the Huangpu District Detention Center. Ms. Wang refused to sign any documents and was released on the evening of December 7, 2020.
9. [Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Dongye Guanglan Arrested
Ms. Dongye Guanglan was arrested by plainclothes officers on January 4, 2021, when she was distributing truth-clarifying materials. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
10. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Lian Jing's Pension Suspended for Years
Mr. Lian Jing is retired from the Liaoning Institute of Geology and Mineral Surveying and Mapping. He was arrested on April 26, 2016, for clarifying the facts about Falun Gong. He was later sentenced to three years in prison and fined 8000 yuan. His pension was stopped in 2017.
After he was released, he tried to get his pension reinstated. The Liaoning Social Security Bureau told him that the suspension of his pension was based on a 2016 government document but a special exception could be granted by an individual employer. When he went to his university, officials there said that they were afraid to reinstate his pension without the specific government document. Because Mr. Lian Jing had no income, his wife divorced him. He cannot afford to rent a place to live.
11. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Huang Jingjie Harassed
Ms. Huang Jingjie, a teacher, was harassed by community staff members at the beginning of November 2020. She refused their demand to sign the three statements and was reported to the town government. She was later harassed by school officials and officials from the education bureau. She refused to cooperate.
Ms. Huang received a harassment call from Xicheng Police Station around 9 a.m. on January 4, 2021. Officer Zhang Xianglin ordered her to the police station. She refused to go. She got another harassment call two hours later from the community office, saying that they were going to come see her and videotape her, which she refused to allow.
12. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Sun Dongmin and Ms. Sun Junying Arrested and Detained
Ms. Sun Dongmin and Ms. Sun Junying were arrested by Yingwu Police Station officers in the Hanyang District on December 27, 2020, for distributing cards with information on how to get around China's internet firewall. They are being held in the No.1 Detention Center.
13. [Shanghai] Ms. Yuan Xiaolan's Pension Suspended
Ms. Yuan Xiaolan’s pension was suspended in December 12, 2020.
14. [Fuxin City, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Persecuted
Ms. Wang Jinfeng and Ms. Bian Chunyan were arrested on August 9, 2019, by Jianshe Police Station head Yu Peng and other officers. Ms. Wang was displaced several months before her arrest. The two practitioners were held in the Xindi Detention Center. In January 2020, Ms. Wang Jinfeng was sentenced to five years and two months in prison and Ms. Bian Chunyan to two and a half years in prison. They were transferred from the Xindi Detention Center to Dabei Prison on October 25, 2020.
Mr. Zhao Hua is expected to be released from Dongling Prison on January 10, 2021, when his term of four years expires.
Ms. Ye Hongmei is expected to be released from Liaoning Women’s Prison on January 17, 2021, when her term of five years ends.
15. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Yong Yulian's and Ms. Zhao Qunlan's Pensions Suspended
Ms. Yong Yulian and Ms. Zhao Qunlan live in Qianlianghu Town in the Junshan District. They were told to return their pension payments. Ms. Zhao was ordered to reimburse the Social Security Bureau 130,000 yuan and Ms. Yong, 54,000 yuan. If they did not, they would no longer receive their pensions. They would have hard time just getting by.
16. [Beijing] Mr. Li Datao Arrested
Mr. Li Datao in Beishakou Village, Xinxing Town, Li County, was arrested by Jianwai Police Station officers in the Chaoyang District on October 24 or 25, 2020. He has been detained in the police station ever since.
17. [Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Five Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Zhang Lanjun and two other elderly practitioners were arrested on the morning of December 10, 2020. They were taken to the Taoshan Police Station. Officer Lin Tao and others ransacked Ms. Zhang’s home. Lin Tao forced Ms. Zhang to acknowledge the bills with truth-clarifying words which were in Ms. Zhang Liping’s case. Ms. Zhang returned home after being detained for 15 days. She went on a four-day hunger strike during her detention.
Two female practitioners from the Wanbao Community in the Taoshan District were arrested on the morning of December 10, 2020, and were detained. The two elderly ladies have returned home safely.
18. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Cui Changyu Arrested
Ms. Cui Changyu, over 60, from the Wuchang District was arrested by officers from the Luojiashan Police Station in the Hongshan District on January 4, 2021. It is unknown where she is detained.
19. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Yuhua Persecuted
Ms. Li Yuhua, 61, was arrested on March 11, 2017, and sentenced to four years in the Jinzhou Court. She was taken to the Liaoning Women’s Prison on November 21, 2017. She is expected to be released on March 10, 2021.
20. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Zou Liumei Harassed
Ms. Zou Liumei was detained in the Nanchang Detention House for five days. She was released on January 4, 2021. Officers from the Lidu Police Station claimed that they would come to her home on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Ms. Zou left her home.
21. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Wu Yueling Harassed
Ms. Wu Yueling lives in Tianxin Village, Junqu Town in the Xindu District. She was harassed at home by five people from the Junqu Town Police Station and local community on December 17, 2020. They told her to sign the three statements, which she refused to do.
22. [Nantong City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Lu Lihua Sentenced to One Year
Ms. Lu Lihua, 74, was arrested on September 15, 2017, while studying the Falun Gong teachings with eight other practitioners. The authorities dispatched officers in 30 police cars to arrest them. Ms. Lu was released on bail after a few months of detention.
After Ms. Lu refused to sign the bail document, the police submitted her case to the prosecutor, who later indicted her. She was tried in the Chongchuan Court on September 22, 2020, and sentenced to one year in prison five days later.
23. [Taian City, Shandong Province] Five Practitioners’ Arrests Approved
Eleven Falun Gong practitioners in Taian City, Shandong Province, were arrested on November 24 and 25, 2020. All of them had their homes ransacked and their Falun Gong literature confiscated.
By December 30, 2020, six of them—Ms. Zhang Lixia, Ms. Jia Yuangui, Ms. Mi Peixia, Ms. Pei Fengqin, Mr. Zhao Shengwen, and Ms. Xiao Aifeng—were released.
The remaining five practitioners—Mr. Gao Fangqiang, 50; Ms. Xie Qingling, 64; Mr. Li Cunguo, 61; Ms. Yang Huixia, 57; and Ms. Zhou Min, 65—are still detained. The police informed their families on December 31, 2020, that their arrests have been approved by the Taishan District Procuratorate.
