(Minghui.org) A resident of Yueyang City, Hunan Province suffered memory loss and almost died after being injected with unknown drugs for nearly two months while serving a two-year labor camp term for her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Two Years of Forced Labor
Ms. Zou Ruxiang was first arrested on the way to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on February 27, 2000. She was detained in Pingjiang Detention Center for one month. After being released, she was often harassed by local police officers and taken to the local brainwashing center.
She went into hiding to avoid harassment. Her husband was extorted 10,000 yuan by the police during the period.
Ms. Zou was arrested again in 2001 and sent to Pingjiang Detention Center. The police interrogated her and attempted to force her to renounce Falun Gong. As she remains firm in her faith, the police gave her two years in Baimalong Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City a few days later.
Physical Abuse and Forced Drug Injections
In the labor camp, the guards made Ms. Zou watch TV programs slandering Falun Gong the entire day. They shocked her with electric batons and instigated criminal inmates to monitor and beat her. They also denied her sleep and played loud noises to further attack her resolve.
Ms. Zou went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She was then forced fed many times. Two of her teeth were knocked out in the process.
As she still refused to give up Falun Gong, the guards took her to the Psychiatry Department of Zhuzhou No. 2 Hospital in April 2002. There, they shocked her with electric batons. After she passed out, they tied her up in a bed and injected her with unknown drugs.
The guards left Ms. Zou tied up for 57 days. She was not given any food except for some drug injections. She was in and out of consciousness and had to relieve herself in the pants. She survived but was in a stupor most of the time.
Ms. Zou became emaciated and lost almost half of her weight from the torture. She was totally confused and lost her vision. She lost feeling all over her body. Her back and buttocks festered. Her eyes were dull and her face was pale. When her husband came to pick her up, she couldn’t even recognize him.
Several months after she was released, she remained in a delirious state and couldn’t remember who she was.
With meticulous care from her family, she could slowly sit up and stand. Her vision also began to recover. Later, she resumed practicing Falun Gong and her health gradually recovered.
