(Minghui.org) A Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province resident is facing trial for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Wang Shuicheng (also known as Wang Huamei) was arrested on October 5, 2019. Her lawyer visited her at Potou District Detention Center on October 22 and learned that she was holding a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
Ms. Wang’s family frequented the local police station and the detention center to demand her release, only to be harassed and threatened by the authorities.
The Chikan District Procuratorate returned Ms. Wang’s case to the police due to insufficient evidence. The police resubmitted her case, however, and the procuratorate indicted her and forwarded her case to Chikan District Court.
The detention center now prohibits Ms. Wang’s lawyer from visiting her, citing the coronavirus pandemic.
