Beijing Woman Faces Trial by Judge Who Sentenced Her Years Ago
(Minghui.org) A woman in Beijing is facing trial for raising awareness about Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999. Her case is being handled by the same judge who sentenced her years ago, also for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Jia Fengzhi was arrested on November 9, 2019, while distributing calendars with information about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and put her on criminal detention. She has been held in the Pinggu District Detention Center ever since.
On December 4, the police searched Ms. Jia’s other residence, with the excuse that the prosecutor was demanding more evidence to charge her.
The Pinggu District Procuratorate approved her arrest on December 16, 2019, and indicted her on March 20, 2020. It’s been reported that the prosecutor, Wang Chenggang, is recommending a three- to four-year term.
This is the second time that Ms. Jia has been targeted for her faith in the past five years. She was arrested on January 7, 2015, also for passing out the Falun Gong calendars. The same Pinggu District Court judge, Sun Guoli, sentenced her to two years on November 21, 2015.
