(Minghui.org) A Changchun City, Jilin Province resident was sentenced to five years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan on May 10, 2019 for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yang Lihua opened her door at 7 am on March 7, 2018 to see a man yelling at her, “Freeze! Police!” Four more officers, also in plainclothes, showed up and went inside her apartment.
One of the officers flashed a piece of paper in front of Ms. Yang without allowing her to read its contents. He claimed that it was a search warrant. He next produced an alleged police ID but refused to allow Ms. Yang or her husband, Mr. Han Yuxiang, to take a careful look. Meanwhile, the officers refused to tell the couple which police station they came from.
Three of the officers restrained the couple and the other two guarded the door. They didn't allow the couple to make phone calls, walk to other rooms or even drink water.
Five more officers came shortly and spent hours ransacking the home. They confiscated Ms. Yang's computers, printers, Falun Gong books and many other personal belongings.
The police submitted Ms. Yang's case to Nanguang District Procuratorate in May 2018. She was convicted one year later.
Ms. Yang's husband had been relying on her to take care of his daily needs after suffering a stroke. Their grown children, who live away from them, struggle to arrange care for their father now that his sole caregiver is imprisoned for her faith.
