(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old resident in Dalian City, Liaoning Province has been denied family visits since being jailed six months ago for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhan Shuhua was sentenced to an eight-year prison term and fined 30,000 yuan on July 31, 2018 for making automated phone calls about the persecution of Falun Gong. Her appeal of the verdict was turned down by Dalian City Intermediate Court.
The authorities have denied family visits for Ms. Zhang after she was taken to Liaoning Women's Prison on November 20, 2018.
Her family suddenly received a call in April 2019 and asked to deposit 5,000 yuan into a bank account provided by the caller, who identified herself as a staff from the prison.
When Ms. Zhan's family went to make the deposit, they were told that the account was under Liaoning Women's Prison, not any specific person. When they dialed back that number to verify the bank account, the call couldn't be connected.
Ms. Zhan's family also mailed her several letters but never received any response. They are very worried about her right now.
