(Minghui.org) Six months after 76-year-old Ms. Tan Meiying was released after one year of detention for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, she still feels strong effects from the drugs she was injected with and fed while being detained at a drug rehabilitation center. She suffers from frequent headaches and dizziness, as well as blood in her urine.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. In the campaign designed to eradicate Falun Gong from China, drug administration has been a prevalent technique used by the authorities to target those who remain firm in their faith.
Ms. Tan, a resident of Qidong County, Hunan Province, was arrested in December 2017 while she was traveling to Beijing. At the Shijiazhuang City Train Station in Hubei Province, five officers dragged her out of the train and took her back to Qidong County Detention Center in her hometown.
She was next sent to the Qidong County Drug Rehabilitation Center, where a doctor surnamed Luo injected her with and forced her to take many unknown drugs.
Ms. Tan said she felt extremely bad after taking those drugs. She suffered from acute headaches, dizziness and pain in her chest. She felt weak in her limbs and also had blood in her urine for a long time.
After months of drug administration, she was taken back to Qidong County Detention Center.
The authorities never informed Ms. Tan's family of her whereabouts, nor was she allowed to contact them. Her family was kept in the dark of her status until a person released from the detention center visited them and delivered the message for her.
Both Ms. Tan's younger brother and daughter rushed to the detention center and requested to take her home. The authorities extorted a large amount of money from her daughter before releasing her in November 2018.
Past Persecution
Ms. Tan began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. She is grateful for the tremendous health benefits she has received from the practice.
After the communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for her faith, but she was repeatedly arrested and detained.
She was arrested in 2015 and sentenced to three years in prison for holding up a banner about Falun Gong at Tiananmen Square.
