(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Ying and Ms. Wang Hongling, Falun Gong practitioners from Inner Mongolia, were tried by the Qingshan District Court in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia on December 26, 2018. No verdict was announced during the trial.

On January 24, 2019, both practitioners were sentenced to prison. Mr. Wang Ying was given a two-year prison term and fined 5,000 yuan, and Ms. Wang Hongling was given a one-year-and-six-month prison term and fined 3,000 yuan.

The details of the sentences were obtained on January 29, 2019, but only after repeated requests by their lawyers. Because of this delay, the lawyers had only five days to appeal. By law the appeal period is 10 days. Both practitioners appealed to the Baotou City Intermediate Court on February 2.

Mr. Wang and Ms. Wang were arrested by officers from the Qingshan District Domestic Security Division on March 6, 2018. The Police Department and the Qingshan District Procuratorate filed their cases to the court without notifying the lawyers or the practitioners' families. Both practitioners were tried on the morning of December 26, 2018. Both lawyers pleaded not guilty on behalf of their clients.

The lawyers clarified that practicing Falun Gong is not only legal, but also helps restore society's moral values. Both practitioners also testified in their own defense.
