(Minghui.org) A Falun Gong practitioner in Fushun City, Liaoning Province has filed a motion to reconsider his prison sentence for his faith.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Li Gang, 55 and a former employee of a coal company, was arrested on July 22, 2016 during a police sweep of local practitioners. He appeared in Dongzhou District Court on September 13, 2018 and was sentenced to two years and ten months, with a 10,000-yuan fine.

Mr. Li appealed against the verdict, but the Fushun City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold it.

Mr. Li was released on May 22, 2019. To seek justice, he hired a lawyer and filed a motion to reconsider his case. He challenged the intermediate court’s decision to uphold his sentence and requested a retrial of his case.

This wasn’t the first time that Mr. Li was persecuted for his faith. He was sent to a brainwashing center in 2000 and given three years of forced labor in 2002.

While serving time at Wujiabao Forced Labor Camp, he was beaten by the guards for stopping them from beating another Falun Gong practitioner. All of his teeth became loose and later fell out. He had to get dentures when he was only 36 years old.
