(Minghui.org) Police in Nanjing arrested Falun Gong practitioners in an operation ahead of the 19th Communist Party Congress in the name of “maintaining social stability.” Radar design expert Mr. Ma Zhenyu, senior engineer Ms. Xie Yanmin, and junior engineer Mr. Ma Mingjie of the Nanjing Fourteenth Research Institute are still detained.
China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) 14th Research Institute, also known as Nanjing 14th Research Institute, employed nearly 300 practitioners before the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999.
Practitioners employed by the institution have been taken to prisons, detention centers, mental hospitals and brainwashing centers. The Institute also set up a brainwashing center. All costs were deducted from the practitioners’ salaries. The Gulou District Brainwashing Center was also set up to persecute practitioners from the 14th Institute. Mr. Ma Mingjie was recently taken to this facility.
Mr. Ma Zhenyu Persecuted Since Onset of Persecution
Engineer Mr. Ma Zhenyu was arrested, detained, subjected to brainwashing, and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in 2000. He was sent to a forced labor camp for a year and a half in 2011. Mr. Ma was arrested again on September 19, 2017, and his house ransacked.

Ms. Xie Yanmin’s Whereabouts Unknown
In the first two years of the persecution, Ms. Xie Yanmin went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was arrested eight times. She was sent to two years of forced labor in 2009. She was arrested again in 2015 and held in the Nanjing City Detention Center.
Ms. Xie was arrested again on September 20, 2017, and her whereabouts are unknown.
Mr. Ma Mingjie Arrested Three Times
Mr. Ma Mingjie, a software engineer, was arrested and taken to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center by officers from the Zhongyangmen Police Station and the Gulou District 610 Office in late August 2017. This was his third arrest in recent years.
Mr. Zhang Yulong Abused in Mental Hospital
Engineer Mr. Zhang Yulong was abused in a mental hospital for over 10 years. His wife was forced to divorce him and was given custody of their son.

Ms. Liu Jie Taken to Brainwashing Center
Ms. Liu Jie, in his 50s, is a senior engineer and the deputy director of the institute’s technology division. Bai Puhua, head of the local 610 Office, ordered that Mr. Liu be taken to the 610 Office brainwashing center on March 26, 2015.
Bai and others ransacked Mr. Liu’s house on March 29. Bai took Mr. Liu to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center on April 1. It was announced to the entire institute that Mr. Liu’s title and benefits had been rescinded.
Mr. Han Zhaoming Subjected to Brainwashing
Mr. Han Zhaoming is an engineer. He was reported to his workplace for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Staff members from his workplace, as well as officers from the Gulou District 610 Office and Ninghai Road Police Substation, took him to a brainwashing center, where they tried to “transform” him (force him to renounce his faith) for over 20 days.
His salary was lowered, and his bonus was stopped. He has not returned to work. His wife divorced him under pressure and was given custody of their young daughter.
Ms. Lu Qi Taken to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center
Ms. Lu Qi, an engineer, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice her faith in 2000. She was arrested and held in the Nanjing Detention Center for over 20 days before being taken to the detention center’s brainwashing center for seven days by Bai Puhua. She was detained at the Gulou District Brainwashing Center in 2001 and 2002. Her salary was lowered. Her house was ransacked in 2002.
Ms. Ding Juzhen Monitored and Harassed
When Ms. Ding Juzhen was talking with a few Falun Gong practitioners from the 14th Institute in March 2000, she was arrested by officers from the Shuizuogang Police Substation and held for a day and a night. Subsequently, she was detained at the Nanjing City Detention Center for a month.
Ms. Ding was held for a month in the brainwashing center by the 610 Office in June 2001. She was also held in the Nanjing City Detention Center for one month in September 2001, where she was put in handcuffs and had to wear a prison uniform. Staff from the 610 Office and 14th Institute ordered her neighbors to monitor her and make phone calls at midnight that constituted harassment.
Ms. Lu Jindi Arrested, Detained, and Subjected to Brainwashing
Ms. Lu Jindi was told to renounce Falun Gong if she wanted to retain her Communist Party membership by a division chief, Luo Min, at the end of 2000. She refused to give up her faith.
Then, she was taken to the brainwashing center by staff from the 610 Office on June 8, 2001, despite her father being hospitalized for cancer and needing her to provide special care.
Her husband and son negotiated with the management of the 14th Institute to ease of the requirements. Therefore, three people from the 610 Office and institute management administered Ms. Lu’s brainwashing session at her house on June 18, 2001.
Ms. Lu was detained at the institute’s brainwashing center for three days starting on July 30, 2001. Officers from the district 610 Office arrested and took her to the Gulou District Brainwashing Center on August 13, 2001. They detained her for 16 days.
Officers from the Ninghai Road Police Substation arrested her at her home on September 21, 2005.
Guo Anda from the Gulou District Police Department, Wang Jia from the 14th Institute Retiree Office, and Zhang Changai from the 610 Office arrested Ms. Lu and held her for nine days in the detention center. They deducted 300 yuan from her salary. The retiree office manager ordered Ms. Lu’s neighbors to monitor her and make harassing phone calls.
Ms. Li Xinhua Ordered to Give Up Falun Gong
Ms. Li Xinhua’s Falun Gong books were confiscated by staff from the 610 Office between February and March of 2002. She was brainwashed and ordered to write “guarantee statements” renouncing Falun Gong.
Her husband could not handle the pressure and wrote the guarantee statement for her. Under the long-term pressure by the 610 Office on Ms. Li’s family, her husband’s deteriorated. He developed cancer and passed away in September 2003.
Ms. Peng Genxiu Persecuted and Sent for Brainwashing
Ms. Peng Genxiu was arrested and taken to her local police substation in March 2001, where she was detained for 24 hours. Then, she was taken to the brainwashing center after several days.
She was again arrested and taken to the Guluo District Brainwashing Center in July 2005 for 15 days. Her house was ransacked, which caused significant stress for the family.
Ms. Xia Yuhua Detained and House Ransacked
Ms. Xia Yuhua was detained at the Shuizuogang Police Substation in Nanjing on March 3, 2001, and her house was ransacked. On March 5, she was taken to the Nanjing City Detention Center and held for one month.
She was taken by staff from the 14th Institute to the 610 Office brainwashing center in June 2001, where she was held for seven days.
Officers from the Najing City 610 Office attempted to arrest her in July 2012 but were not successful.
Her family continues to receive harassing phone calls from the 610 Office.
Ms. Tong Fengxian Arrested and Detained Multiple Times
Ms. Tong Fengxian is 73 years old. Several police officers broke into and ransacked her house in March 2000. They took her to the Shuizuogang Police Substation. She was deprived of sleep and taken to a detention center the next day.
Guards there stopped her from doing the Falun Gong exercises and forced her to watch propaganda videos slandering Falun Gong and its founder. After a month of torture, she was taken to the 14th Institute brainwashing center. She developed high blood pressure and was taken to the Gulou Hospital. Nevertheless, the authorities sent her to one year of forced labor with probation.
In June 2005, she was arrested by officers from the Yijiangmen Police Substation and held in a detention center for over a month.
She was again arrested by officers from the Jiangdong Police Substation on September 17, 2014.
Ms. Zhang Aidong Detained Many Times
Ms. Zhang Aidong has been detained twelve times, sent to forced labor three times, and taken to a brainwashing center since the persecution started. Her home was ransacked at least eight times. The authorities also extorted money from her. She was forced to stop working in 2002 and given early retirement in the fall of 2003.

Mr. Wang Jianbing and Ms. Jiao Liqun Dismissed by Workplace
