(Minghui.org) The Heping District Court in Shenyang sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Su Xiaohua to a three year prison term on June 26, 2015.
Ms. Su was arrested on April 26, 2014 for trying to reason with an officer about arresting a practitioner for distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong.
The verdict states that she was arrested for handing out Falun Gong informational materials. Even if it were true, the Chinese Constitution grants free speech to its citizens.
Although she was released a month later for lack of evidence, the verdict claimed that police found 130 Shen Yun DVDs in a shoe box at her home.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York based performing arts group, that presents classical Chinese and folk dance. The programs also include scenes about the persecution of Falun Gong in China.
Regardless of the legality of owning such DVDs, based on the Chinese Constitution, the judge made it illegal to have a Shen Yun DVD.
Ms. Su Xiaohua and Mr. Meng Xianguang
While they arrested Ms. Su, officers also arrested her husband, Mr. Meng Xianguang. He was sentenced earlier to a three-and-a-half-year term by the court.
