(Minghui.org) Dozens of officers from the local domestic security division broke into Ms. Yang Manye's home in the Putuo District of Shanghai on the evening of October 9, 2013. They arrested her and confiscated some of her personal belongings. Officials from the Putuo District Procuratorate approved the arrest on November 14. Ms. Yang has been held in a detention center for over two months. Her family have hired a lawyer to defend her.
Ms. Yang, 46, has been sentenced to a forced labor camp five times over the past 14 years, due to her belief in Falun Gong. The authorities have broken into her house many times and ransacked it. Her family members have been living in complete fear. Ms. Yang hasn't been able to properly care for her young child because of the frequent arrests and incarcerations.
Practitioners Ms. Chen Xiuying, Ms. Lu Xiuli and Ms. Miao Lanying went to Ms. Yang's home on October 9, 2013 to collect truth clarification materials and went out to distribute them. Agents from the local 610 Office were monitoring Mr. Yang's home and were parked in front of her house. They took photographs of the practitioners' movements and used them as evidence.
Officers Gong Jie and Xia Wenwei from Ganquanlu Police Station and Zhang Chunyang (in his 50s) and Zheng Jun (in his 30s) from the Putuo District Domestic Security Division later arrested Ms. Yang. They arrested Ms. Yang's husband and son the same day, but released them the next day.
Ms. Yang's first four arrests
Police from the Putuo District arrested Ms. Yang at the end of 2000, when she was distributing truth clarification materials. After being incarcerated in the Putuo Detention Center for nine months, officials from the local court sentenced her to four years in Songjiang Women's Prison in Shanghai. As Ms. Yang was forced to do hard labor for long hours, her physical condition deteriorated. She accidentally fell one day and shattered her knee caps. When her term was up, the prison authorities arbitrarily added nine more months to her sentence, using the excuse that she had a Falun Gong book hidden in her cell.
Ms. Yang was released in August 2005, but less than six months later, officers from the Putuo Domestic Security Division arrested her again. This time she was taken to Qingpu Forced Labor Camp in Shanghai for a year and a half.
On June 6, 2009, Ms. Yang was arrested for the third time. Police officer Chen Hongbin brought about a dozen officers and agents from the domestic security division and the 610 Office and broke into her house. When Ms. Yang's 16-year-old son tried to stop them Chen attacked him. The police arrested Ms. Yang and confiscated a lot of her personal belongings. They threatened Ms. Yang's in-laws and her husband.
Officers from the Putuo Domestic Security Division tried to arrest Ms. Yang's son again the next day. Ms. Yang's family then hired a lawyer to protect their rights. With the help of the lawyer, Ms. Yang was released within a month from Putuo Detention Center.
Officers from Putuo Domestic Security Division and the 610 Office arrested Ms. Yang again on October 22, 2009, and took her to a brainwashing center. Her family tried to get her released but were just passed between different government departments.
