Falun Gong practitioner Chen Guifang in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province
Around 10 a.m. on June 19, 2008, officers Liu Feng, Xue Jun, Mr. Zhang, and others from Caochangjie Police Station in Lanzhou City seized Ms. Chen Guifang from her home. They also took away with them a dozen Falun Dafa books, truth-clarification VCDs and pamphlets, a VCD player, and a recorder. They detained her in the notorious Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center. The director of Caochangjie Police Station, Liu Feng, and Xue Jun repeatedly tried to force Ms. Chen to tell them the source of her truth-clarification materials. She did not follow their orders and refused to sign any documents.
Ms. Chen Guifang was home alone when she was illegally arrested. Her family members tried to find her for a long time and finally located her at the end of July. On February 10, 2009, her family went to visit her, but Yang Wentai, the director of Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center, was on duty, and he did not allow them to visit her or to leave any personal items for her. In March, when Ms. Chen's family members went to visit her again, Yang Wentai again turned them down, because Ms. Chen would not sign certain statements.
On February 20, 2009, Qi Ruijun, the head of the brainwashing center, beat Mr. Su Jinxiu, a Falun Gong practitioner, and injured him. Practitioners Niu Wanjiang and Guan Longshan tried to stop Qi Ruijun. The following day, Ms. Chen Guifang, Niu Wanjiang, Su Jinxiu, Du Wenhui, Dong Xiulan, and Hou Yanqing went on a group hunger strike to protest the persecution. Ms. Chen was on the hunger strike for three days.
On April 23, 2009, Ms. Chen was brutally force-fed. Ju Youhua and Qin Hongxia implemented the force-feedings. They mixed baked flour with water, then sucked it into a big syringe. They forcibly injected the food into Ms. Chen's nose through a tube, twice a day.
On the fifth day of the hunger strike, at 7 p.m. on April 27, Qi Ruijun and Liu Xin brought handcuffs with them and locked Ms. Chen Guifang in a solitary cell in the center. Her hands were cuffed behind her back to the lower end of a metal bed, so she could not stand up or squat. She was in great pain.
At 10 p.m. that day, Qi Ruijun, Liu Xin, and Qiao Houquan surrounded Ms. Chen and held her head whild medical staff person Wang Yuquan inserted the tube. Ms. Chen struggled and the tube was not successfully inserted into her nose the first time. After several trials the tube was forcibly inserted, almost suffocating her. They felt something was wrong and pulled the tube out.
After force-feedings they removed the handcuffs from Ms. Che and started to beat her. Qi Ruijun, Liu Xin, Wang Yuquan, Qiao Houquan, and security staff kicked Ms. Chen's knees, ankles, and calves, Liu Xin slapped Ms. Chen while kicking her. After a while, Liu Xin pushed Ms. Chen in front of Qi Ruijun. Qi Ruijun kicked and hit her, asking, "Do you still want to practice Falun Gong?" Ms. Chen Guifang said, "Yes!" They beat her again. Noticing that she was almost dying, they stopped. They let Ju Youhua watch over her. After Ms. Chen lay down for a while, all of a sudden they broke in and beat her again. After the force-feedings, she was beaten for over 40 minutes. Her face was swollen, her nose was bleeding, and her calves became black and blue.
At the end of October 2009, Falun Gong practitioners again went on a hunger strike to protest their illegal detention. On the fifth day of the hunger strike, Qi Ruijun ordered others to tie Ms. Chen to a bed with her arms and legs stretched out. Half a hour later, Qi Ruijun pretended to be kind and untied her to try and force her to eat.
At the end of March 2010, Yan Yongsheng, the vice principal of Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center, and a person on the staff with last name Mu and Tian detained Ms. Chen in a solitary cell on the first floor and did not let her sleep. In order to deceive her, they forced her to watch videos that slandered Falun Dafa.
As a result of the persecution, Ms. Chen Guifang suffered from high blood pressure. Also the staff of the brainwashing center secretly added unknown drugs to her rice.
After being tortured mentally and physically for almost two years, Ms. Chen Guifang was released in mid-April 2010.
