(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Mingyuan, who is illegally imprisoned in the No. 13 Ward at the Liaoning Province No. 2 Prison, showed high-risk hypertension symptoms in November 2006. His family went to the prison to demand his release and requested that he be released on bail for medical treatment. The prison personnel published an internal document stating that the sick and disabled, those who had lost their ability to work, and those over 60 years of age may be released on bail for medical treatment, but Falun Gong practitioners are not eligible. If they don't give up their belief, they won't be released. Mr. Li Mingyuan has been hospitalized at the prison hospital for more than three months, and his blood pressure has been very high. However, the prison authorities refused to release him and even compelled him to leave the hospital to return to forced labor work. His situation is critical.
Mr. Li Mingyuan's family members are urgently appealing for help to rescue Mr. Li Mingyuan. They ask that international society condemn the illegal imprisonment and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the Liaoning Province No. 2 Prison and request his immediate release.
Mr. Li Mingyuan, 62 years old, is a doctor. He was the former director of the state-operated Liaoyang Xinhua Machinery Factory Hospital. He lives in Shoushan Town, Liaoyang County. Mr. Li Mingyuan started practicing Falun Gong in March 1999, and through the practice his body and mind have benefited greatly. His coronary disease, which he suffered from for over 20 years, was cured.
On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong. On March 11, 2001, at around 2:00 p.m., the Liaoyang County Police Department dispatched officers to surround Mr. Li Mingyuan's house. They knocked on the door first, and then broke his window and entered his home through his next-door neighbor's home on the second floor.
At that point many people were watching at the base of Mr. Li's building. The police illegally confiscated his property, including a picture of the founder of Falun Gong, Dafa books, a tape recorder, 11,000 yuan in cash, a deposit certificate of 30,000 yuan under his son's name (the police withdrew the money from the bank in 2002.) His son asked for this money many times, but the county police refused to return it, claiming that it was "illegally gathered funds." After Mr. Li Mingyuan was arrested, because his son was attending college, his family was under great financial strain. Mr. Li's wife continuously worked to support the family.
Mr. Li Mingyuan was illegally imprisoned at the county detention center for eight months. The Liaoyang County Court sentenced Mr. Li to 11 years of imprisonment under the charge of "destruction of social order." Mr. Li's appeal was later rejected. After February 12, 2002, Mr. Li was imprisoned at the Shenyang Dabei Prison. Mr. Li Mingyuan has always been very steadfast while imprisoned and continued to clarify the truth under persecution. He has firmly refused to write the three statements to give up his belief.
