(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of May 22, 2007, Ms. Wei Mingzhen (53 years old) and Ms. Xiao Shusheng (51 years old), both from Nanpiao District, Huludao City, Liaoning Province, were distributing Falun Gong truth clarification materials at the large market in Shaguotun Village. They were arrested by police from the Shaguotun Village Police Station and sent to the Xingcheng City Detention Center, where they were detained for over 5 months. In the early morning of November 8, 2007, they were transferred to the Shenyang City Women's Prison in Liaoning Province.
Recently, Wei Mingzhen and Xiao Shusheng's family went to visit them in prison. Wei Mingzhen's body was found to be very thin and her face was pale; her health was extremely poor and she had to be propped up by two inmates. The skin under her right eye was purple and an obvious sign of severe beating. By talking to her, her family got to know that she was brutally beaten in the prison and tortured for disobeying the prison guards' orders, such as memorizing prison rules and undertaking knitting as manual labor.
At this moment Wei Mingzhen is detained in a team consisting of new inmates. She is unable to take care of herself and has almost lost her sight. Her family is very worried about her health. The prison guard monitoring the visitation claimed that prison life was nice and their management was reasonable and legal. The guard also indicated that the authorities would take good care of Wei Mingzhen. When asked by Wei Mingzhen's family about her grave health condition, the guards all remained silent.
The families of Wei Mingzhen and Xiao Shusheng had a hard time trying to gain visitation rights, because the prison authorities asked the families to identify themselves as non-practitioners, and also forbid them to talk about matters related to Falun Gong during the visit. On top of that two female guards were present and listening in throughout the whole visitation.
