(Clearwisdom.net) On February 10, 2004, Ninghe county court in Tianjin sentenced four Falun Dafa practitioners: Li Maofen, Wang Shumin, Chen Yuling, and Wang Shouke, to three or three-and-a-half years in prison. In addition, that same evening, eight Dafa practitioners were secretly arrested. Their homes were ransacked and their property was confiscated. These eight practitioners are being detained in an undisclosed location.
In May 2003, Chen Yuling was arrested for exposing the persecution suffered by Falun Gong practitioners at the hands of the Jiang regime. At that time, she was coughing up blood due to abuse, and she was released on bail until the trial. When the court session opened, her husband had to carry her to the court on his back. Ms. Chen was too weak to sit or stand.
Seventy-seven year old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Shouke was arrested in May 2003. The police tried to extort a so-called "confession" by torturing her. (Note: In China, police often use intimidation, violence and even torture as a means to force people to "confess" to alleged crimes that they did not commit. The situation with Falun Gong practitioners is especially severe, and Falun Gong practitioners are routinely forced to choose between being true to their conscience or being tortured.) On one occasion, the police choked Ms. Wang with a wire until she almost suffocated. When she had a physical exam, her blood pressure reached 240. Ms. Wang was released on bail until her trial. When the court session opened, she required assistance to make it to the courthouse.
One day prior to the start of the trial, Dafa practitioners from Ninghe county put up pictures of people practicing Falun Dafa around the world at the entrance of the county police station, the entrance of the detention center, school entrances, the local police station entrances, the telephone halls, and the farmers' markets. (Note: The Jiang regime has, in addition to spreading lies and slander about Falun Gong in the state-run media, suppressed all information about Falun Dafa's popularity around the world. Thus, people in China often don't know that Falun Dafa is practiced freely everywhere outside of China.) Letters encouraging police to follow the law and their conscience were delivered to some police officers' homes, the house of the secretary of the politics committee, and to several residential areas.
However, during that same evening, eight Dafa practitioners were arrested, and four Dafa practitioners were sentenced. We are working hard to clarify the facts and doing our best to make up for the losses.
