Facts of the Persecution

I was tortured at the Haidian District Detention Center in Beijing

My name is Li Shulan, and I started practicing Falun Gong in 1995. I used to suffer from severe kidney infections, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses, all of which were cured through Falun Gong practice.

The Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong violates the law, so I went to Beijing to appeal for justice in November 2000. The police abducted me and sent me to the Haiding District Detention Center in Beijing where more than 20 people took turns beating me until I lost consciousness. Then they poured cold water on me. When I came to, they started beating me again. The beatings disfigured my face and body, but still they proceeded to shock me with electric batons. This gross abuse left me unable to walk. I held a 13-day hunger strike to protest these atrocities. The torture caused my menstrual period to last for six months. As soon as my condition improved and I could walk again, they sent me for one year of forced labor. Officials transferred me to the Beijing Labor Reeducation Dispatch Center, where the perpetrators constantly tortured me. Later they sent me to the Xinan Forced Labor Camp in Daxing County, Beijing. I sometimes had bouts of menstrual hemorrhage. In addition, my leg became disabled as a result of the tortures.

Practitioner Nie Baoli from Wuqing District, Tianjin City, recounts persecution facts

In November 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal and was abducted by authorities. The perpetrators violated the law and sent me to the Wuqing District Detention Center. They held me there for 20 days and released me after taking 280 yuan from me.

On January 17, 2001, officials from the Wuqing District Criminal Police Team abducted me when I was on my way to Dawangguzhuang Town to visit my father. They sent me to the Wuqing District Detention Center again. I was held in Cell 18 and assigned a workload normally handled by three people. If I didn't finish on time, the guards would not allow me to sleep and would beat me on a daily basis. My weight dropped from 64 kg (about 135 lbs) to 40 kg (about 88 lbs). Five months later, the Wuqing District Court broke the law and sentenced me to three years and six months in prison. I was sent to the No. 1 Prison in Tianjin City. Three months into the incarceration I was transferred to the North Dagang Prison in Tianjin City, where I often suffered stomachaches and could not eat. I also had difficulty walking. The prison authorities saw that I might possibly die. They were afraid of being held responsible, so they urged my family to take me home on November 30, 2001. After I returned home, I quickly recovered through Fa study and by doing the Falun Gong exercises.

Practitioner Hao Bianyun and her five-year-old daughter abducted in Shiliting Town in Shahe City, Hebei Province

Around 2:00 p.m. on October 27, practitioner Hao Bianyun and her five-year-old daughter from Xiajie Village in Shiliting Town were abducted from home. According to witnesses, several brawny men kicked Hao Bianyun, covered her mouth and dragged her into a car. Her five-year-old daughter ran after her, crying. The men grabbed the little girl, threw her into the car as well, and then drove off. The abductors are from the Shiliting Town government, headed by Wu Xinghai and Zhao Meiying. In 2004, these two officials often harassed and abducted local practitioners under orders from Zhao Juhui, the secretary of the town's Party Committee and Yuan Zengguo, the head of Shiliting Town, also the former head of Shahe City's "610 Office."

Four teachers and practitioners in Bin County, Heilongjiang Province, abducted and sent to brainwashing class

Officials from the Bin County government, the county "610 Office," and the county police department conspired with Qiao Guanglin, secretary of the Ningyuan Town Party Committee to abduct practitioners. At 9:00 a.m. on November 1, 2004, they abducted four practitioners, including Zhang Qizhuang and Fu Yanxia, both teachers at Ningyuan Town Middle School, and Tang Huaxiang and Li Leixin, both elementary school teachers. Officers from Bin County Police Department were the ones responsible for sending the practitioners to the No. 2 Detention Center in Bin County. The practitioners were later transferred to the Wuchang City Brainwashing Class in Heilongjiang Province.

Practitioner Zhang Qizhuang was held for a year at the notorious Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp, where he developed scabies all over his body. The four practitioners wrote many letters to the town and school officials as well as to their colleagues to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. On October 19, 2004, the town Party Committee secretary Qiao Guanglin, as well as officials from the Bin County "610 Office," duped practitioner Sun Fenghua and abducted her. They sent her to the No. 2 Detention Center in Bin County. Sun Fenghua held a hunger strike to protest, but the next day they sent her to the gruesome Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, where she is to be held for three years. Sun Fenghua had gone to Beijing to appeal in October 1999 and was previously detained in the No. 1 Detention Center in Bin County.

On October 29, 2004, practitioner Ms. Li Zhibo, around 40 years of age, was reported to police from the Shengli Street Police Station. They then ransacked her home and sent her to the No. 2 Detention Center in Bin County.
