The Happenings in the Mental Hospital of Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province

As a journalist from a small newspaper, I dare to say what others dare not to say, and dare to write what others dare not to write. In the few days when an international trade conference was held in Jiaozhou City, I happened to meet a few Falun Gong practitioners and got to know their following experiences in the mental hospital of Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province.
[1] To Find My Lost Human Rights
By Kuang Bencui, an employee from the Third Leather Shoe Factory of Qingdao City
I am a Dafa practitioner from Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province. I have been practicing Falun Dafa for five years. On February 14 of 2000, I went to Beijing to tell the government the truth of Falun Dafa. I had trusted the Party since my childhood and believed that the government could uphold justice for its people. Moreover, appealing to the government is a right granted by the constitution to each citizen. Therefore, I believed my appealing was completely legal and reasonable. However, after arriving in Beijing, I could find nowhere to appeal but to go to the Tiananmen Square. On my way to the Tiananmen Square, a police stopped me and asked whether I was a Falun Gong practitioner. I told him "yes" and then got arrested. I was sent to the Jiaozhou Liaison Office in Beijing and detained for one night. The next morning, my work unit in Qingdao came to pick me up and claimed to send me home. However, it turned out that they directly sent me to the mental hospital of the Jiaozhou City.
I had no mental problems at all. So why should I stay with mental patients? I told the nurses that I had gone to Beijing because Falun Dafa had enabled me to become a healthier and better person with high moral standard, and it was wrong for the government to defame Falun Dafa as an "evil cult". Therefore, for sake of justice, I decided to speak out for Falun Dafa. I was very healthy mentally. I could take well care of my children and my husband at home. I had not taken any medicine or any injections during the five years of practice. It was not that I refused or insisted on not taking medicines or injections, but that I had become so healthy that I did not need any medicine or injections. However, they replied, "Your brain is Ok but your mind has problem. So long as you insist on practicing Falun Gong, you are mentally ill." No matter what I told them, they refused to listen to me and said that the "upper" ordered them to detain me. I then asked them, "Which 'upper' are you talking about?" They said, "The Politics and Law Commission." Then I asked them, "Do you have any written document for detaining me here?" They said, "The order was verbally passed down." Later on I got to know that the 'upper' officials offered two choices to my work unit, one being putting me under personal custody, the other sending me to a mental hospital. My work unit chose the second one. I had then stayed in the mental hospital for 2 months.
During the two months, I had been treated exactly like a mental patient. I was forced to take medicine and have injections. Since I was completely healthy, I refused to take medicine. Two men then seized my arms, while one pinched my nose. I still tried to keep my mouth closed. They then drove a chopstick between my teeth and force-fed me with the medicines. I was force-fed three times a day, with the dosage increased from one tablet a time to 6 tablets a time. This way, I spent two months in the mental hospital. Later, I was bailed out by my family members.
I could not understand where I had misbehaved; why the Politics and Law Commission could detain a healthy person in the mental hospital; and where I could find my human rights? During the "best period in terms of China's human rights", please help me find my lost human rights!
[2] Let the World Get to Know Jiaozhou City
By Xu Yanzhong, living at No.4, Zhaojiayuan Village, the Fuan Liaison Office in the Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province
On April 25 of 2000, I was sent to the mental hospital of Jiaozhou City for forced-treatment because I wanted to continue practicing Falun Gong.
In the beginning, I refused to accept the treatment. I was then tied up and forced to take medicine and have injections. In the over 10 days that followed, several people siezed me and force-fed me with medicines and gave me injections. During that period, I had suffered unimaginable mistreatment physically and mentally. After the injections, I suffered weakness all over the body, difficulty in opening my eyes, nervousness and bad temper, etc.
Now that over a month has passed since then, I am still not able to maintain a balanced standing.
We practice Falun Gong just to get a healthy body and become a better person. I simply could not understand why it is not even permitted to become a better person. In the mental hospital, there is no freedom, nor law. Whatever we say is not listened to but treated as nonsense.
In order to tell people that Falun Dafa is righteous, I am willing to continue my suffering here, a hell in the human society.
[3] Make Jiaozhou a City of Worldwide Attention
By Tan Guihua, an employee from the Third Leather Shoe Factory of Qingdao City
On September 12, 1999, I went back home after appealing in Beijing for Falun Gong. Before I could sit down, some officers from my work unit and the Politics and Law Commission broke into my home and took me to the mental hospital.
At the hospital, I questioned them, "Why do you send me here? I do not have any mental problems." An officer named Song said, "It is definitely a problem for you to go to Beijing to appeal. We take you here to cure your problem." They then dragged me into the mental hospital with force. By then, they had already prepared a big dose of injection and planned to give me the shot as soon as I arrived. I told them I refused to have the injection since I did not have any mental problems. A tall nurse responded that he would get some people to hold me and give me the injection. He then went out and brought back 8 mental patients. They pressed me down and gave me the injection. In only a few seconds, I began to feel fainted and sick. My heart started to beat so fast as if it were about to explode. I was so miserable that I pressed my head against the wall and held the ground firmly with both hands. At that time, I stick to the idea that I was a practitioner of Falun Gong, and no matter how they treated me, I would still continue to practice Falun Gong. When I was in great pain, I tightly bit the corner of the comforter in my mouth and tried not to make any noise. My mouth bled from the biting. Then, I lost consciousness. Nobody could know how much I had suffered. I did not feel better until the drug effect gradually abated.
Later, a female doctor asked me daily whether I would continue to practice Falun Gong. I said 'yes', and she would shock me with electrical needles. I had been shocked for a total of 7 times. Meanwhile, I was force-fed with medicines and given injections three times a day. The female doctor had said, "I bet that someday you will say you won't practice Falun Gong anymore." A nurse said that she could not bear it even if she would take the medicines I had been fed just once and it was really inconceivable that Falun Gong practitioners had not collapsed even after being fed with the medicines daily. Like that, I spent two months there.
Later, that female doctor asked a nurse named Ma to give me another kind of injection. The nurse said that that injection was imported and the drug effect would last for over one month so that she did not need to give me the injection daily. After that injection, my period stopped coming. My eyeballs then could not move and I became slow reacting. A few days later, they added another medicine to the injection. After the shot, I shook all over the body violently and could not even hold the bowl. The experience was unbearable. So I went to the female doctor and told her that I could not bear it any longer. She said, "Aren't you able to endure? Let me see whether you still continue to practice Falun Gong. After the first injection, you did not commit suicide by bumping into the wall. Then you will not die. What you are feeling is just the drug effect. You will be Ok after it is gone." I was tortured like that for 20 days. At the time when my family members picked me up, I was so muddleheaded and could not see things clearly. My head was totally blank and could not recall things in a big while. Whoever saw me would claim that I had become insane. My whole body was puffy. My eyes looked dull. My reaction became slow and it took long time for me to say a word.
