The following letter was sent to the American Embassy, Beijing, on November 21, 2000.
Dear Mr. Ambassador,
As political uncertainty envelops the USA and economic uncertainty unsettles China, it is good for people to pause and consider the eternal principles that offer hope to humanity. According to the teachings of Falun Dafa, these principles are: "Zhen, Shan and Ren," or, "Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance."
You are aware that the political paranoia of Jiang Zemin has led to the persecution of practitioners of Falun Dafa as well as the slandering of its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi. From what I can gather, the fact that there might have been more Chinese citizens studying Falun Dafa than in the Communist party need not have been any cause for alarm as they only wish to pursue selflessly the goal of becoming good people while remaining politically inactive, which would clearly benefit Chinese society. There is no reason to accuse them of "propagating feudalistic superstitions to disturb society."
Perhaps you recall the exemplary conduct of some World War II diplomats such as Raoul Wallenberg. Their efforts enabled thousands of Jews to avoid the death camps. Though I cannot ask you to play a similar role, I urge you and your staff not to be swayed by the vile government propaganda, and, in
the noble American tradition of upholding religious freedom, to speak out and inform as many other countries as possible that we Americans believe it to be wrong that innocent and harmless Chinese citizens are sent, following warrantless searches and seizures, to labor camps for "thought transformation" and torture.
Respectfully and with good wishes,
Gary N. Pansey
