[Daqing City] Falun Dafa practitioner Wang Bin was tortured to death
Wang Bin, male, about 47 years old, was a computer engineer at the Design Institute of the Daqing Oil Management Bureau. He was once awarded the second prize of the National Science and Technology Award. Last December, he took the initiative, along with more than 200 Dafa practitioners in Daqing city, Heilongjiang Province, to sign their names on the "Falun Dafa is Good" banner. When he took this banner and a petition letter to appeal to the National People's Congress, he was detained for more than one hundred days. This April, he was arrested by the overly nervous police for 45 days and charged with "contact with other practitioners" simply because he had a meal with nine practitioners. After his release, he went to Beijing at the end of May to appeal and was sentenced to a labor camp. On September 24, he firmly refused to write the guarantee letter at Dongfeng Xingchun Labor Camp in Daqing city and was severely beaten many times.
Wang Bin was severely beaten up by 4 or 5 prisoners on the night of September 27, 2000. Feng Xi, the director of the Second Team of the labor camp, instigated the beating. Feng Xi said to the principal offender, "You can beat him to death if he doesn't write the guarantee letter." The torture caused the artery in his neck and major blood vessels to break. His tonsils were injured, his lymph nodes crushed (they had their circulation cut off), and several bones fractured. He had cigarette burns on the back of his hands and inside his nostrils. There were also many bruises all over his body. It was too horrible to see his condition, and his life was in danger at that time. On that night, he was tortured until he fainted. Someone reported his condition to the prison guard and asked him to take Wang Bin to the hospital. The guard rejected the request, saying that it was no problem, and that Wang Bin would wake up in a while. Wang Bin remained unconscious through to the next day. When he was finally taken to the hospital, the doctor said it was too late to rescue him. On the night of October 4, he died of severe injuries, including ruptured blood vessels and heart failure. This is one more Dafa practitioner who lost his life for validating Dafa, for telling people the truth and for steadfastly cultivating in Falun Dafa. We appeal to all the kind-hearted people to voice your concern about this matter, to help those illegally detained and arrested practitioners in China, and to stop the evil deeds of Jiang Zemin (the Chinese president) and his gang. The Second Team of the labor camp was dismissed due to this matter, the principal offender and his gang were taken away, and their whereabouts are unknown.

During the holiday vacation around this National Day (October 1), we, (about twenty people together,) traveled to Beijing by tourist coach. We were all held up at the Yufa check station in Daxin county, Beijing. The reason is that every tourist going to Beijing had to carry three IDs; otherwise they are not allowed to enter. We (including the driver) were all checked and questioned several times by the security from Beijing and Daxin county. Even a nine-year-old child was not spared; he was frightened into crying. Six people were taken away without any reason that day, by the security, and the rest were held in the coach for almost 24 hours until we escaped in the evening when the guard was not watching closely.
It was impossible to take this trip. We still felt scared after returning home. Anyone traveling to Beijing was asked to show three IDs, and even be interrogated and searched by the ferocious policeman without reason. How can they dare to unscrupulously attack people's freedom? Are there still any laws constraining them? They knowingly violate the law, so who is supporting them? In the morning of October 8, residents in Yanzhong city, Sichuan Province, found materials telling the truth of Falun Dafa and the public notice "To Jiang Zemin: Stop this Reckless Behavior that is Disgracing China" posted almost everywhere, including many residential areas.
With their selfless, fearless hearts and wisdom enlightened from Dafa, practitioners in Yanzhong city told the truth of Dafa and revealed the brutal persecution of Dafa to the public. [Hebei] Dafa practitioner Lu Chunfeng in Langfang city of Hebei province was persecuted to the point of mental disorder, while in the labor camp.
Lu Chunfeng, female, 42 years old, lives in Yanjiao town, Shanhe County of Langfang City. Before practicing Falun Dafa, she had difficulty walking and suffered a lot from other diseases. After practicing Falun Gong, all her diseases disappeared. She was vigorous and free of illness, worked as a porter to deliver the construction material to construction sites. Her family was rather happy since then. At the end of October 1999, she was detained for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. She was put into the Kaiping Female labor camp in Tangshan City on November 18, 1999. In May 2000, after 72 days' hunger strike, she was sent back to Shanhe County. At that time, she was tortured so severely that she became mentally disordered. She was so emaciated that she had no strength to do anything but breathe. She could not recognize anyone. Her family could not believe she was in such a bad shape and thought she could not live anymore. Somehow, she survived, but she still cannot speak normally and eat regularly.
We still do not know what kind of maltreatment and medicine in the Kaiping Labor Camp, in Tangshan City, that Lu Chunfeng had experienced and received.
[Tsinghua University] News from Tsinghua Chinese government ferociously persecuted practitioners at the University
Zhang Weizhen and He Duanlian (both are female), Falun Gong practitioners in Tsinghua University, were detained in Beijing police station because they clarified the truth of Falun Gong to the public. It was said that He Duanlian would be imprisoned or sent to the labor-camp for printing Falun Gong materials. He Duanlian was beaten with police clubs by four policewomen because of her peaceful appeal for Falun Gong in TianThe areas of her body from her breasts to her thighs were all bruised. Later, she obtained her release from the help of Tsinghua University. However, two days later, she was detained again for printing Dafa materials. Up to now, she and Zhang Weizhen are being detained in Qinghe Detention Center of Haidian District. We do not know what kind of persecution they are facing now.
On October 4, three practitioners in Tsinghua University were detained directly from their home without any legal documents by the local Zhongguanchun police station because the police were afraid that these practitioners would go to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong. The two of them were not released until noon of the next day. Another practitioner's situation is unknown. In addition, police visited one practitioner's home and disturbed him several times until midnight.
We vigorously condemn Jiang Zemin and his gang's fascist and brutal persecution of intellectuals and Falun Gong practitioners. We call on all kind-hearted people, governments and organizations to denounce this brutal conduct.

On October 9, the police blocked the road to Beijing from Yanjiao. They inspected ID cards of all the people going to Beijing and asked whether they were Falun Gong practitioners. Anyone who answered yes would be detained immediately.
On October 6 and 7, the local government and police station in Yanjiao region arrested more than a dozen practitioners at their homes in the name of holding education class. On October 6, more than a dozen officers from the township government and Yanjiao Police Station ransacked practitioner Ma Weishan's home and confiscated all Dafa books.
On October 1, a practitioner from Pucha Village was detained and taken to Changping Police Station in Beijing simply because of saying "Falun Dafa is good" in Tiananmen Square. On that very night he was taken back by the Yanjiao Police Station and detained for one night. The police there also asked him to pay RMB 2,000 [Chinese dollar]. His work unit suspended his salary and would deduct RMB 8,000 from his salary.
In addition, the security unit of Pucha Village demanded the practitioners at home to turn in their ID cards. All work units put the practitioners under surveillance, whom they believed to be the backbone. The police took away some practitioners' ID cards and have kept them for more than 7 months. Right now, the police still refuse to give IDs back to practitioners. Some local security personnel took away household registration cards of some practitioners and would not return them.
[Changchun] Two practitioners from Changchun City were arrested and jailed in Tiebei Prison of Changchun for distributing materials about the truth of Dafa.
[Sichuan Province] Southwest Petroleum Institute irrationally persecutes Dafa practitioners.
Southwest Petroleum Institute, located in central Sichuan province, was known for its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners among universities in that region. In October 1999, four students enrolled in 1996 were expelled from the school for continuing to practice Falun Gong. They were Tang Jian (a graduate student), Nan Xiaoqing, Zeng Yonghao and Geng Honghai. On June 2000, six practitioners, who were the faculty and staff of Southwest Petroleum Institute, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They were: Wu Kaisong (associate professor), Ren Zhenhua (associate professor), Li Yanjun (teacher), Xie Xianzhi (retired teacher of the affiliated high school), Liu Junhua (retried doctor) and He Qiuhua (retired staff). After they were detained and sent back to the school, the president of the institute followed Jiang Zemin's directive and asked the police to send 5 of them for 3 years of labor education. So far, Wu Kaisong has been sentenced to one and a half years in labor camp, Li Yanjun 1 year in labor camp, Ren Zhenhua and Liu Junhua 1 year of labor education outside labor camp. Their salaries and pensions also have been suspended until now. He Qiuhua was detained for 15 days.
Lu Guoxiang, an associate professor at the institute, was detained for 23 days for browsing the Internet. Qu Chengyan, a senior engineer, was detained for 7 days. To prevent practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, the institute detained Yang Xiuzhong, another senior engineer, for 15 days.
