(Minghui.org) As a woman walked along the lawn across from the Chinese Embassy in Stockholm, a Falun Dafa practitioner handed her a flyer. The woman accepted it and said she had heard about China’s human rights abuses, but she felt many things were not reported by the media.
“My neighbor is from China, and I think the family is misled by the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) propaganda,” she said. “I’ll give this flyer to my neighbor and remind them to not take the CCP’s news as the sole source.”
The practitioner was handing out materials during a rally in front of the embassy to mark the 27th anniversary of the April 25 appeal in Beijing. More than 10,000 practitioners went to the State Appeals Office on April 25, 1999, to ask that they be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to practice Falun Dafa. The CCP later claimed practitioners were “besieging the CCP headquarters” and launched a brutal persecution, which continues today.
Practitioners also held an event beside the parliament building in the center of Stockholm on April 25, 2026. They told people about the CCP’s persecution and its state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting, as well as its transnational repression. They called on the Swedish people to help stop these human rights abuses.

A practitioner read aloud an open letter to the embassy staff, and called on them to recognize the nature of the CCP and quit their Party memberships. Practitioners distributed flyers, talked with passers-by, and exposed the CCP’s lies.

Many local residents said that they admired the practitioners’ 27-year-long efforts to peacefully protest the persecution. Passersby accepted flyers and talked with practitioners.
Participants of the April 25 Appeal in Beijing Recall the Event
Li Zhihe from Beijing, who now lives in Stockholm, said, “I arrived at Fuyou Street before 6 a.m. on April 25, 1999 and saw the police were directing people towards the State Appeals Office. I followed the crowd and stood along the street where the police told us. I stood there all day. There were many people. We did not block the path—we just calmly waited for a response from the government. Throughout the day, people joined us or left. Everyone moved about in an orderly manner.
“We did not have any political agenda. We just wanted to tell the government our experiences while practicing Falun Dafa. The CCP later framed Falun Dafa with fabricated charges, which are utterly absurd and completely baseless.
“Thanks to the unremitting efforts of practitioners over the years to clarify the truth, people know that the appeal was entirely proper and lawful.”
Another practitioner Chen Ying, who participated in the April 25 appeal in Beijing, also lives in Stockholm. She said she remembers it vividly. “I went to airport to see someone off on the morning of April 25, 1999. By the time I arrived at Fuyou Street after 10 a.m., there were many people. I went where the police told me to go.
“I didn’t see a single familiar face, but after asking around, I learned that some people traveled all night by train from Liaoning, Sichuan, and other places. Everyone stood there quietly and patiently waited. We held no banners, we chanted no slogans, and we did not obstruct traffic. Everything was orderly.
“Some practitioners quietly collected stray bits of litter; the ground remained clean at all times. It was such a scene of serenity that it left a memory to last a lifetime.”
Ms. Chen added, “I arrived late. So I thought I would stay until the end. A little after 9 p.m., news came that the issue was resolved, and we left quietly.”
Public Support Beside the Parliament
Practitioners do the exercises

People learn about Falun Dafa.
Practitioners went to Mynttorget Square beside Parliament at 1 p.m., did the exercises and collected signatures on a petition calling for an end to the persecution. They introduced the practice to the public and talked about the April 25 appeal in Beijing, the CCP’s persecution, and the CCP’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting.

Many local residents and tourists learned about Falun Gong and the persecution during the event at Mynttorget, which is near Stockholm’s Old Town and the Royal Palace. The group exercise demonstration, posters, and banners drew the attention of passersby. People accepted flyers and talked with practitioners to learn more about Falun Gong. Many people signed the petition to support the practitioners and condemn the persecution, “Way to go. Keep up the good work.”
Background: What Is the April 25 Appeal?
Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries worldwide. Millions of people have embraced the teachings—which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance as well as five gentle exercises—and experienced improved health and well-being.
On April 23 and 24, 1999, police officials in Tianjin, a city near Beijing, assaulted and arrested dozens of practitioners who gathered outside a magazine office to discuss errors in a recently-published article attacking Falun Dafa. As word spread of the arrests and more practitioners inquired with officials, they were told they had to take their appeals to Beijing.
The following day, April 25, some 10,000 Falun Dafa practitioners spontaneously gathered at the Central Appeals office in Beijing, as they had been instructed by Tianjin officials. The gathering was peaceful and orderly. Several Falun Dafa representatives were called in to meet with Chinese Premier, Zhu Rongji, and members of his staff. That evening, practitioners’ concerns were answered. The arrested practitioners in Tianjin were released and everyone went home.
Jiang Zemin, former head of the CCP, perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology and issued an order to ban Falun Dafa on July 20, 1999.
Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners due to the persecution over the years; the actual number is suspected to be much higher. More have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.
There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply the organ transplant industry.
