(Minghui.org) On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa), and I was illegally detained for over ten years in forced labor camps and prisons. To help more people understand the truth and expose the CCP’s persecution, with the help of fellow practitioners, I have been using the law to clarify the truth about the persecution.
After I was released from prison, the first thing I did was to talk to my employer, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and the local Political and Legal Affairs Committee and apply for my retirement benefits, which I was legally entitled to. Every office I visited ignored me. So I wrote a long letter to the heads of these agencies, asking them to follow the law and issue me my retirement benefits. I explained that it was legal to practice Falun Gong.
The second thing I did was to write a letter to the chiefs of the police department and the Domestic Security Division and asked them to return my personal property that was taken during their illegal raids. They did not reply to my letters.
How to move forward? I was confused. With the help of fellow practitioners, I mailed an “Application for Retirement in Accordance with the Law” following legal procedures, and I mailed my Criminal Complaint to the local procuratorate and the police department. I planned to hold the Domestic Security Division and the police accountable for their illegal and criminal acts. In doing this, I was following the law.
In my letters, I described how I was persecuted. I cited the law to tell them that “the practice of Falun Gong is legal, but the persecution of Falun Gong is illegal.” I wanted those responsible for upholding the law to learn about Falun Dafa.
For me, this was a process of familiarizing myself with the laws, cultivating myself, and using the law to expose the CCP’s illegal persecution, clarify the truth, and help Master save sentient beings.
I mailed my Criminal Complaint and the other materials to the persons-in-charge of central ministries, commissions, street committees, police stations, and so on, covering a wide range of areas. One of the people I contacted came to my house to harass and intimidate me. I told him about Falun Gong, and I explained that persecuting Falun Gong and its practitioners is violating the law. I said that whoever does this is committing crimes and that those who are responsible must be held accountable.
He tried to act like it wasn’t his responsibility. From this experience, I saw that when practitioners use the law and hold the police accountable, the perpetrators are afraid and restrain themselves. What they fear most is that the persecution of Falun Gong will be exposed and they will be held accountable.
Two months after I’d mailed my Criminal Complaint, I’d gotten no reply except for the man who’d harassed me. I started mailing copies of my Criminal Complaint to the procuratorate at the next higher level to hold the person in charge of the local procuratorate accountable. I mailed copies of my complaint to nearly all the local government offices, public security stations, and other relevant agencies. Before I mailed them, I sent forth righteous thoughts: “Let the recipients read this, understand the truth, and be saved. Disintigrate the evit.”
Two days later, the head of the 610 Office called, and we talked for more than 40 minutes. I didn’t expect the call and I wasn’t prepared. He said, “You mailed a letter to the person in charge at such and such agency, right?” I agreed that I did. He said, “You stepped over the line. The police will look for you, and you will be in trouble.” He tried to threaten me, but there was no legal basis for what he said.
I said, “I’m following legal procedures, so it should not be a problem. I mailed letters to those agencies to let them know how I was persecuted and to get help applying for my retirement benefits.”
“What can they do to help you?” he asked. “What is the difference between you sending letters everywhere and mailing ‘Falun Dafa is good’ everywhere?”
I told him to take a good look at the legal documents and materials I’d written. He said, “I’ve read it all. You said that the Political and Legal Affairs Committee was an illegal institution.”
I said, “‘It is and so is the 610 Office. That’s what I wrote. If you don’t agree, you can refute it.” He was speechless. I told him, “Practicing Falun Gong is legal, and persecuting Falun Gong is a crime.”
He shouted, “Who said that?!”
I said, “I said it. What I wrote explains it very clearly. Take a good look.”
“If you have a demand, just appeal directly and don’t write about Falun Gong or promote Falun Gong things,” he said. “Is writing these things going to do you any good? Will it help your appeal?”I said, “I was persecuted because I practice Falun Gong, and I was wrongfully sentenced to prison, which let to my current situation, so I have to expose this persecution.”
As he spoke, he seemed to have less and less confidence. He started out tough, was incoherent in the middle, and finally ended up with nothing to say. On the other hand, the more I talked, the clearer my thinking became, and I felt that there was no way evil could suppress what’s righteous.
The leader of the 610 Office finally said, “I said you stepped over line, but I didn’t say that you broke the law. You should pay attention in the future. Don’t mail such things all over the place. I don’t care to know about such things. If it weren’t for the report from a certain office today, I wouldn’t have called you. It is good that you familiarize yourself with the law and protect your rights in accordance with the law. I’ll visit you when I have time. Let’s talk then.” I said that would be just fine.
During the more than 40-minute call with the 610 Office person, I felt that evil could not suppress what’s righteous and that Dafa can dismantle all evil. I was initially nervous, but then I calmed down and explained the truth clearly. I faced his threats and intimidation with a calm mind. I had no fear, and my righteous thoughts became stronger and stronger. This confidence came from Dafa, from the help of fellow practitioners, and from solid cultivation.
I realized that this call was not accidental, that it was to see how I would think at a critical moment. No matter what a practitioner encounters, his first thought should be that he is a Falun Dafa practitioner: He should remember his responsibility and mission, that safeguarding the Fa comes first, that clarifying the truth and saving people is foremost, and that no matter how bad things are, they will turn out to be good things. These people are giving us an opportunity to continue to clarify the truth in depth.
