47-Year-Old Guangdong Man Admitted to Prison After Losing Appeal Against Five-Year Term for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) Mr. Xie Yujun, 47, from Xingning City, Guangdong Province, was admitted to the Sihui Prison in mid-May 2025 to serve a five-year term for practicing Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.

Mr. Xie was arrested on April 24, 2024 and had his case submitted tto the Xingning City Procuratorate in later July 2024. Weeks later on August 20 his case was forwarded to the Meixian District Procuratorate in Meizhou City, which oversees Xingning City. Meixian District Procuratorate and Meixian District Court have been designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Meizhou region.

The Meixian District Court held two hearings of Mr. Xie’s case, on October 18 and November 12, 2024, before sentencing him to five years with a 70,000-yuan fine on October 18, 2024. Three other local practitioners who were arrested three days before Mr. Xie and tried together with him were also sentenced to prison, with Ms. Liao Juanna receiving five years and a 70,000-yuan fine, and Mr. Li Zhuozhong and his wife, Ms. Liao Yuanqun, each getting ten years. They were collectively fined 150,000 yuan.

All four practitioners filed appeals and their cases were registered with the Meizhou City Intermediate Court on January 7, 2025. It was learned on April 10, 2025 that the intermediate court ruled against the four practitioners. Mr. Xie was admitted to prison in mid-May 2025. It is unclear whether the other practitioners were transferred to prison yet.

Prior to their latest sentencing, Mr. Li served two labor camp terms totaling three years, Ms. Liao Yuanqun served a one-year labor camp term, and Mr. Xie was incarcerated for nine and a half years, including two labor camp terms and a prison term.
