(Minghui.org) Ms. Lin Zhongying, 62, from Chongqing was recently sentenced to two years and three months for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Lin was arrested on January 3, 2025, after she was reported by a taxi driver for telling him how her health improved after she practiced Falun Gong. The information card she gave the driver was used as prosecution evidence against her.

The arresting officers from the Jiangbei District Domestic Security Division took Ms. Lin to the Jiangbei District Detention Center. They told her that they followed her for a long time before the arrest. The Jiangbei District Procuratorate approved her arrest not long after and indicted her.

Ms. Lin was tried by the Jiangbei District Court in a closed-door hearing on June 26, 2025. After the hearing ended, she condemned the communist regime for persecuting Falun Gong and was dragged away by the bailiffs. She sustained injuries as a result. She was convicted at an unknown time.

This is the second time Ms. Lin has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously arrested on September 17, 2017 and indicted by the same prosecutor Liu Jie of the Jiangbei District Procuratorate. The Jiangbei District Court sentenced her to two and a half years and fined her 3,000 yuan. She was transferred to the Chongqing Women’s Prison on June 5, 2019, after the Chongqing First Intermediate Court rejected her appeal.

Financial Persecution

After Ms. Lin was released in March 2020, the police and local residential committee staffers frequently harassed her.

On April 8, 2022, the Lianhua Street Social Security Bureau contacted Ms. Lin and ordered her to return the 72871.34 yuan she received from October 2017 to February 2020 during her first prison sentence. They claimed that according to a new policy, she wasn’t entitled to receive any retirement benefits during her prison term, despite the fact that no Chinese labor law stipulates this.

Ms. Lin refused to comply. She wrote to the Ba’nan District Human Resources, the Ba’nan District Social Security Bureau, and the Ba’nan District Government Information Department, on August 8, 2022, demanding the agencies provide public access to the alleged “new policy.”

The first two agencies responded to her saying they received her request, but no agency honored her open information request. Nonetheless, in January and March 2024, the local residential committee frequently harassed Ms. Lin at home or over the phone, attempting to force her to sign a letter to acknowledge that she received the open information she requested.

Meanwhile, the Jiangbei District Court froze Ms. Lin’s pension account and set a maximum amount of monthly withdrawal to less than 3,000 yuan. They said they did this because she failed to pay the 3,000 yuan court fine when she was sentenced in 2017.
