(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old Chongqing resident was arrested on January 3, 2025, and is now facing prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Minghui.org recently confirmed that Ms. Lin Zhongying had been issued a formal arrest warrant by prosecutor Liu Jie of the Jiangbei District Procuratorate. She is now held at the Jiangbei District Detention Center.
Ms. Lin took up Falun Gong in July 2010 and she credits the practice for helping her become more tolerant and forgiving. Her frequent headaches and insomnia also disappeared.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Lin was previously sentenced to two and a half years, together with her son-in-law, Hong Liu, and his mother, Ms. Deng Jiqiong. The trio were all arrested on September 17, 2017. The police raided Ms. Lin’s home until midnight before taking her to the Yubei Road Police Station. She and the other two were taken to the Yubei District Detention Center later on.
Ms. Lin was transferred to the Shapingba District Detention Center on September 19, 2017. Her arrest was approved by the Shapingba District Procuratorate on October 26.
Mr. Hong was transferred to a brainwashing center after serving 37 days of criminal detention at the Yubei District Detention Center. He was once beaten by the police for half an hour and severely injured. He was taken back to the Yubei District Detention Center after his arrest was approved on November 24, 2017. He and his mother were both transferred to the Jiangbei District Detention Center in April 2018.
Mr. Hong, Ms. Lin, and Ms. Deng were tried by the Jiangbei District Court on September 3, September 4, and September 14, 2018, respectively. Their lawyers entered not guilty plea for them and they also testified in their own defense.
Mr. Hong was later sentenced to three and a half years, Ms. Deng was given three years and Ms. Lin received two and a half years with a 3,000-yuan fine. Ms. Lin appealed with the Chongqing First Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict in April 2019. The authorities transferred her to the Chongqing Women’s Prison on June 5, 2019, without notifying her family.
