(Minghui.org) Six Dongfeng County, Jilin Province, residents were recently sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Dianzhu, Ms. Dong Yufeng, Ms. Dong Yuqin, Ms. Yu Liqiu, Ms. Yu Ping and Ms. Zhu Deyan were each sentenced to three years and fined 10,000 yuan. Ms. Liu, Ms. Dong Yufeng and Ms. Dong Yuqin have been released on medical parole.
The six practitioners were arrested on August 8, 2024, while studying Falun Gong teachings with two other practitioners at a private home. The police raided their homes and took them to the Liaoyuan City Detention Center. They stood trial at the Longshan District Court weeks later and were convicted.
Regarding the other two practitioners arrested at the same home, Ms. Yue Chunxia were released after 15 days of detention and Ms. Dong Yusu was released on bail at an unknown date, after she developed systemic edema and had difficulty breathing due to abuse in custody. Ms. Dong moved in with her daughter after being discharged from the hospital and died at her daughter’s home on December 15, 2024. She was facing trial by the Longshan District Court at the time of her passing.
Past Persecution of the Six Sentenced Practitioners
All of the six sentenced practitioners have been persecuted before their latest wrongful conviction.
Ms. Liu, around 81, was arrested on May 21, 2013 and sentenced to five years by the Dongfeng County Court in December 2013. She served time at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Dong Yufeng, who used to run a hair salon, was arrested on the evening of September 12, 2008, together with Ms. Yu Liqiu, a former chemistry teacher of Dongfeng County Third Middle School, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Both women were detained at the Dongfeng County Detention Center and sentenced to three years by the Dongfeng County Court on November 26, 2008. They appealed with the Liaoyuan City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold their original verdicts.
Ms. Dong was arrested again on July 14, 2015 at her hair salon and detained for two weeks. Ms. Yu was arrested another time on December 21, 2017 and later sentence to one and a half years at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Dong Yuqin was arrested on May 29, 2018 at the Qingdao City Train Station in Shandong Province, when she went there to attend a relative’s wedding. She was escorted back to Dongfeng County and detained at the Liaoyuan City Detention Center for 15 days.
Ms. Yu Ping was arrested at home on the evening of July 1, 2012. Her home was ransacked and she was detained at the Liaoyuan City Detention Center for 15 days. She was arrested again on November 10, 2017 and held at the Liaoyuan City Detention Center. The Dongfeng County Court sentenced her to one year in September 2018.
Ms. Zhu Deyan was arrested at home on September 13, 2011. The police beat her and caused her to faint. She was later taken to a brainwashing center and detained for an unknown amount of time. She was arrested again on October 28, 2017 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was put on criminal detention and sentenced to 16 months by the Dongfeng County Court in September 2018. She served time at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
