(Minghui.org) I started practicing Falun Dafa in April 1999 and embarked on the path of cultivation to return to my original, true self. Practicing Dafa helped me understand where we come from and where we are going, and that the purpose of life is to return to our original, true selves, ultimately reaching a state of selflessness and altruism, putting others before ourselves. After I started cultivating, I eliminated my bad behaviors such as scheming and backstabbing—I realized that deceit and trickery were wrong. I learned to accept things naturally in the face of fame and gain. During conflicts and disputes, I look for my own faults, expand my heart’s capacity, maintain a peaceful state of mind, and try to do better next time.

I would like to tell you about some of my cultivation experiences—how I considered others first to demonstrate the beauty of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. I am grateful for Master’s compassionate salvation!

Always Think of Others First

Although many years have passed, this incident left a deep impression on me. An old man was selling peaches on the street. After weighing them, he said that it was a little short, and he wanted to give me one more. I said, “Don’t give me more. Adding one more would be too much, and you’d be losing money. It’s alright, no need.”

He was surprised and said, “Others always push for more, but you won’t let me?” I told him that I practice Falun Dafa and my Master teaches us to always consider others first in everything we do. He said, “Everyone says Falun Dafa is good.”

“Yes, Falun Dafa is inherently good,” I replied. “It’s the evil CCP [Chinese Communist Party] that frames Falun Dafa. We mustn’t be fooled. What they say on TV is all lies. [Referring to the staged self immolation on Tiananmen Square] Can someone with a tracheostomy speak? If someone burns themselves with gasoline, how painful would that be? Could they just sit still? If we burn our hands, we immediately blow on them and rinse them with cold water. What they showed on TV doesn’t make sense.”

The old man nodded repeatedly as I spoke. I continued, “There’s an old saying, ‘One lie can’t be covered up by ten,’ let alone such a big incident. The self-immolation was a hoax; that fact has been filed with the United Nations. Only we Chinese people are still kept in the dark by the CCP. But we must have a sense of justice. Good is rewarded and evil will meet with consequences. The CCP’s persecution of the Buddha Law is intolerable! Joining the CCP, Communist Youth League, or the Young Pioneers means becoming a member of the Party. We are good people and we should not be blamed for the Party’s evil deeds. Only by withdrawing from their organizations can we receive divine protection when disasters strike.” The old man happily withdrew from the CCP organizations he’d joined.

Another time, I was looking at clothes in a small shop. A leather jacket looked pretty good. A lady next to me was also looking, and we talked. After a while, I heard the lady say to the shop assistant, “We’d both buy this jacket. If we each buy one, can we buy them together, and you give us a discount of 10 yuan?” The shop assistant was a little hesitant, but agreed in order to make some money. After the woman left, I bought my jacket but paid enough to cover the original price. She looked surprised as she took the money, asking why I gave her 10 yuan more. I told her, “I did this because I have a faith. My Master teaches us to always think of others first in everything we do, not just what’s convenient for ourselves. Running a business isn’t easy for you. My faith is Falun Dafa.”

She happily said, “Having a faith is good!”

I explained to her that Falun Dafa is a Buddha Law cultivation practice that teaches people to cultivate their morality according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Dafa has now spread to over a hundred countries and regions outside China, and people of different races and social classes are learning it. I told her that the Tiananmen self-immolation incident was a hoax and that Falun Dafa is not an ordinary qigong—it is the Buddha Law. I explained to her that we must have righteous thoughts towards Dafa so that we can overcome future tribulations.

She immediately said, “I believe! I believe!” I was genuinely happy for her.

The Doctor Who Truly Cares About You

I work in a hospital. As a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, I treat all patients, regardless of their wealth and appearance, as my family members. I treat them with patience and meticulous care, and I operate with focus, never rushing or being careless just because it’s almost closing time or there are many patients. Everyone in the hospital knows how well this department does, and how meticulously I approach the work.

Once, a patient with lower back pain came in. His clothes were dirty, and the smell was very strong and pungent. After he took off his shoes, they were in the way, so I picked them up and placed them under the bed. After inserting the acupuncture needles, I asked him if he was cold and I covered his feet. A man waiting for treatment nearby exclaimed, “Doctor, you are truly amazing, truly amazing!”

After a while, the patient said he couldn’t stand the herbal medicine’s smell anymore and wanted to go home. I helped him move to a different bed and finished the treatment. The next day, the second patient came to me and said, “Those shoes were so dirty! You could have just kicked them out of the way. Why did you have to pick them up with your hands?”

I responded, “I don’t think they were dirty. I must respect the patient.”

He said, “I could never do what you did!”

I act according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, and the patients see this and were all full of praise! One female patient said, “I feel so fortunate to have you treat me. This place feels like home. I don’t want to leave!”

Another woman said, “Thank goodness for my back pain. If I didn’t have back pain, I wouldn’t have met you. I’m so lucky!”

A woman told her grandson, “The doctor who cares for you is the best doctor in the world!”

“You’re Such a Good Daughter-In-Law”

My mother-in-law was hospitalized for nearly three months last year. My husband took care of her day and night, and I substituted for him after I got off work, on weekends, or during my days off.

My mother-in-law is very strong-willed and not easy to care for. Being bedridden and unable to get up, she was never comfortable, which made her even more irritable. She spoke harshly and was unreasonable. I adhered to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, trying to understand and tolerate her from her perspective. I chatted with her and took meticulous care of her, washing her bottom, wiping up her excrement, changing her diapers, washing her feet, turning her over, without minding the filth or hard work. She once told my father-in-law that I took better care of her than her son.

The patient in the next bed asked me, “You take such good care of her, what is your relationship to the old lady?”

When I said I was her daughter-in-law, the patient immediately gave me a thumbs up and praised me, saying, “You’re such a good daughter-in-law! I’ve never seen a daughter-in-law take care of an elderly person like this before.”
