A man in Xian’ning City, Hubei Province, died in August 2021 after years of persecution for his faith in Falun Gong. Mr. Shao Qingming was around 84.
Mr. Shao was paralyzed for over ten years before he took up Falun Gong in 1997. He credited the practice for restoring his health and turning him into a more considerate person.
About a week after the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Shao was arrested at home and taken to a brainwashing center. He was forced to study materials smearing Falun Gong every day. He was released a month later, but not before he was fined 100 yuan.
Mr. Shao was arrested again in September 1999 while doing the Falun Gong exercises in public with other local practitioners. He was interrogated at the Chalukou Police Station and released after 5 p.m. that day.
Close to 30 agents arrested Mr. Shao in 2003 and interrogated him at the Chalukou Police Station for one day.
Mr. Shao was tending to his vendor booth in September 2005 when several agents seized him and took him to a brainwashing center. He was given food laced with unknown drugs. He felt extremely unwell afterwards. He was released over a month later.
Officers Zuo Shuisheng and Chen Dijian from the Chalukou Police Station harassed Mr. Shao at home on July 24, 2007. They accused him of mailing handwritten flyers with Falun Gong information to the Wenquan Police Department. He refused to be taken away, and the police called in backup. Only officer Jin Guoxin showed up. The police then gave up trying to arrest Mr. Shao, but they threatened his son to report to the police station the next day to write a statement on his behalf to renounce Falun Gong. His son went the next day and chief Song Ruisheng threatened him again.
On July 5, 2015, Mr. Shao filed a complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese dictator for launching the persecution of Falun Gong.
