Ms. Peng Wangqin of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, passed away on April 3, 2019, after suffering years of harassment for practicing Falun Gong. She was 56.
Ms. Peng went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong after the persecution started in 1999. She was arrested and given a 1.5-year labor camp term. After she held a hunger strike to protest, the guards force-fed her, loosening half of her teeth that later fell out. Fearing that she might die in custody, the guards took her to the hospital.
Ms. Peng resumed practicing Falun Gong after she was released and soon recovered. But not long after, the police harassed her again, leaving her unable to live a normal life. To avoid further persecution, she was forced to live away from home.
Years of displacement and harassment took a toll on Ms. Peng’s health. She died on April 3, 2019.
