(Minghui.org) A 74-year-old Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province resident, is facing prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Suqin was arrested on October 31, 2024, by Hongmen Police Station officers. She is now held at the Lianyungang City Detention Center. The local procuratorate is in the process of approving her arrest.
Ms. Wang struggled with many ailments, including meningitis B, hepatitis, gastritis, rheumatoid arthritis, in her 20s. She tried many medications, but didn’t have any improvement. She lived in pain every day and lost hope in life.
In May 1997, Ms. Wang came across Falun Gong and was drawn to its teachings. After attending a nine-day seminar of the teachings, she miraculously regained her health and was full of energy again.
Having benefitted so much from Falun Gong, Ms. Wang couldn’t understand why the Chinese Communist Party would launch a nationwide persecution campaign against it in 1999.
At the end of March 2004, she wrote a letter to the local police chief, explaining to him what Falun Gong is and urging him not to participate in the persecution. Yet the police chief ordered her arrest instead. Several officers raided her home and forcibly carried her to their police car.
The police first held her at a hotel for four days, interrogating and verbally abusing her around the clock. She was later given 15 days at a lockup.
Ms. Wang was arrested again and detained for four days in 2007 after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials.
Since then, the local police and community workers often came to harass her. She and her family lived in fear.
After the Chinese Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced in May 2015 that they would accept all the cases filed with them, more than 220,000 Falun Gong practitioners around the world filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who ordered the persecution.
Ms. Wang was arrested between June and August 2016 for filing a lawsuit against Jiang. She was held at the Lianyungang City Detention Center and sentenced to two years in January 2017, shortly before the Chinese New Year.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on August 10, 2020 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was detained at the Yuntai District Detention Center and later sentenced to three years.
