(Minghui.org) A 53-year-old resident of Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to one year on November 27, 2024, for sharing information about Falun Gong online.
Ms. Li Junfei credits Falun Gong, an ancient mind-body practice, for curing her liver issues, bloated stomach, and sciatica (pain radiating from the lower back to the leg). After the Chinese Communist Party initiated the persecution in 1999, she started to raise awareness of the suppression in her spare time.
In April 2024, Ms. Li used her cell phone to post several videos on her social media account showing Falun Gong practitioners outside of China doing the exercises and telling how they improved their character by practicing Falun Gong. The videos received several thousand likes, but her telecommunication company soon blocked her phone service. Wandianzi Town Police Station officers harassed her at home and pressured her to sign a statement promising to stop posting Falun Gong exercise videos online.
Three officers broke into Ms. Li’s home around 3 p.m. on July 15, 2024. They confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main teachings of Falun Gong, and took her to the Fushun City First Detention Center.
A Wandianzi Town Police Station officer called to tell the Kanyuangou Village Government accountant to notify Ms. Li’s husband to report to the police. When he got there, he was ordered to sign a document smearing Falun Gong. He was so terrified, he signed it.
Ms. Li’s lawyer visited her in the detention center on August 22 and learned that she had been issued a formal arrest warrant and been deposed by the Shuncheng District Procuratorate in Fushun City. She said that she could not see clearly due to her cataracts.
With his wife detained, Ms. Li’s husband is struggling to care for her 80-year-old mother, who is blind and deaf.
Ms. Li was tried in the Wanghua District Court on November 27 and sentenced to one year.
