(Minghui.org) Twelve days after the Taipei City Council passed a resolution to condemn the forced organ harvesting being carried out by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the New Taipei City Council passed a similar resolution on July 3, 2023.
Introduced by six bipartisan legislators of the New Taipei City Council, the resolution was co-sponsored by 23 more city councilors. The resolution lists the councilors’ demands for the city government: educate the citizenry about the crime of forced organ harvesting, prohibit the sale and purchase of organs from abroad, and advise people not to seek out illegal organ transplants.

The resolution also voiced support for the bill “Law on Combating and Preventing Live Organ Harvesting” that was introduced in the Legislative Yuan in December 2022. According to the bill, many investigative reports and expert analysis by international organizations, human rights groups, and government agencies over the years have confirmed that live organ harvesting and the sales of live human organs are taking place in communist China, with most of the victims being Falun Gong practitioners.
New Taipei City Councilor Li Yu-Hsiang
Li Yu-Hsiang, the New Taipei City councilor who introduced the resolution, said, “The crime of forced organ harvesting is inhumane and brutal. We hope that by expressing our attitude against it, we can help everyone in Taiwan know about the crime and keep it from continuing.”
New Taipei City Councilor Tai Wei-Shan
Tai Wei-Shan, another city councilor, said that many media have reported on the organ harvesting crime for years and that the crime is totally unacceptable. “We absolutely condemn such an atrocity. When it comes to universal values and human rights, we have to work hard to protect everyone’s right to life and human rights.
New Taipei City Councilor Lu Chia-Kai
Lu Chia-Kai, a New Taipei City councilor and also the campaign office spokesperson for Taiwan presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, said, “We are telling the whole world that Taiwan places great importance on legislation to combat organ harvesting. We oppose violence and support kindness. We hope that the government can take positive actions to prevent more Taiwanese from being harmed abroad.” He added that many cases of organ harvesting have been reported across the globe and he hopes that the passage of the resolution prevents more people from trying to extend their own lives at the expense of other people’s lives.
New Taipei City Councilor Lin Ming-Jen
New Taipei City Councilor Lin Ming-Jen added that commercializing human organs through live organ harvesting is absolutely unacceptable in any society and that it should be condemned and sanctioned in international society, that everyone should oppose it and stop it from happening.
Another city councilor, Chou Sheng-Kao, agreed, “(Organ harvesting) is forbidden by heaven! I hope all local governments across Taiwan follow suit and voice their objection to it.”
New Taipei City Councilor Yen Wei-Tzu
Yen Wei-Tzu, also a New Taipei City councilor, commented that allowing organ harvesting to happen amounts to trampling on human rights. He didn’t want to see medical professionals in Taiwan unknowingly become accomplices in this crime. He hopes the resolution can help stop the crime. He encouraged more people to look for organ transplants through legal channels and avoid becoming accomplices to the killing.
