(Minghui.org) Among the ten Falun Gong practitioners in Haiyang City, Shandong Province arrested between January and June 2021, six have been sentenced, two are awaiting verdicts and the remaining two have been released.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Eight practitioners, including Ms. Liang Yaomin, Mr. Yu Haiyong and his wife Ms. Wang Xuemei, Mr. Zhang Junfeng, Mr. Zhang Jiguo, Mr. Wang Chenggang, Ms. Ji Lixiao, and Ms. Sui Weili, were all arrested on January 9, 2021. A ninth practitioner, Ms. Wang Juan, the director of a kindergarten, was arrested two days later.

The authorities in Haiyang City established a special team, headed by Cong Zhenbo of the Domestic Security Office, to handle the practitioners’ cases.

The tenth practitioner, Ms. Sun Mingxia, was arrested at home on June 16, 2021. The police harassed her son five times within a month following her arrest, causing him to be unable to live at home anymore.

Among the ten practitioners, Mr. Zhang Jiguo and Ms. Ji were the first to appear in court in July 2021 and they were both sentenced to 1.5 years.

Mr. Zhang Junfeng and Mr. Wang were tried in September and October 2021, respectively. It’s not clear whether they have been sentenced.

Mr. Yu and Ms. Wang Xuemei appeared in court on January 17, 2022, and were recently sentenced to 2 and 1.5 years respectively.

Ms. Liang, whose hearings on December 16 and 30, 2021 were aborted due to her heart condition, appeared in court for the third time on January 20, 2022. The former police supervisor in her 60s and her lawyers refuted the evidence that had been fabricated by the police. They said that none of the evidence could prove she violated any law by practicing Falun Gong and demanded her acquittal. She was recently sentenced to 3.5 years.

Ms. Sun was also given 1.5 years. Both she and Ms. Liang have appealed the verdicts.

The remaining two practitioners, Ms. Wang Juan and Ms. Sui have been released and cleared of prosecution.
