(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old former senior engineer in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province has been denied family visits since she was admitted to prison in June 2021 to serve a four-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Meihong’s two front front teeth were yanked out by an inmate who was torturing her, yet the prison authorities didn’t render her any medical attention. Unable to eat well, she is now very weak and held in isolation.
Worried about her health, Ms. Wang’s family recently filed a complaint against the head of Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison Administration Bureau, demanding to allow her family visit and hold her abusers accountable.
Ms. Wang, a geological engineer, was arrested on March 31, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. After a year of detention, she was sentenced to four years around early May 2021.
After being admitted to Heilongjiang Women’s Prison in June 2021, she was held in the intensive training ward for seven months. The guards selected ruthless inmates to torture practitioners like her in order to achieve a high transformation rate.
In order to pressure Ms. Wang to renounce her faith, the prison didn’t allow her to call or meet with her family. According to an insider, Wang Fengchun, the inmate assigned to torture Ms. Wang, once stuffed a rag into Ms. Wang’s mouth and then suddenly pulled it out. Her two front teeth were yanked out as a result and her mouth bled profusely.
The guards never informed Ms. Wang’s family of her injury, nor did they provide treatment to her. She is now having trouble eating and is very weak. As the prison didn’t provide information of her cash account, her family couldn’t make deposits for her to buy anything in the prison. It’s reported that she is currently held in isolation in the 9th ward. Her family kept calling the prison to inquire about her situation, but the guards refused to answer the call.
Ms. Wang’s family recently filed a complaint against Yi Jianmin, the head of Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison Administration Bureau, demanding that the authorities hold the guards and inmates involved in torturing her accountable, release the surveillance video footage of Ms. Wang since she was imprisoned in June 2021, as well as investigating into the abuses of Falun Gong practitioners in the prison.
Ms. Wang’s family also demanded the prison to provide evaluation and treatment to her injury, and allow them to meet with her, call her and make deposits for her.
Ms. Wang had lumps on both sides of her chest in 1995, which continued to increase in size and hardness and caused a lot of pain. The doctor suggested that she receive double mastectomy.
Having witnessed the miraculous recovery of her husband’s health after he took up Falun Gong, Ms. Wang decided to learn the practice as well. Soon after, the lumps disappeared and no surgery was needed anymore.
Living by Falun Gong’s principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” she did everything she could to help others. Her father once gifted her two sets of precious stamp collections worth more than half a million yuan, which was enough to buy up to ten houses in the region at the time. Her husband then asked one of his coworkers to appraise the stamps, but the coworker said he “lost” the collections. Even though Ms. Wang and her husband suspected the coworker stole the collections, they decided to let it go, knowing that the coworker’s wife was seriously ill at the time and the treatments were expensive. Had she not practiced Falun Gong, she would have gone after the coworker.
After the persecution started, Ms. Wang was arrested on October 22, 2003 and sentenced to 11 years five months later.
At Heilongjiang Women’s Prison, she was once forced to work in a room with two big machines that operated at a temperature as high as 180 °C (400 °F). The guards also forced her to sit on a small stool for long hours every day and subjected her to constant beating and verbal abuse.
During the time she was imprisoned, her husband was also serving a 15-year term for practicing Falun Gong. Their teenager daughter struggled to grow up by herself. After being admitted to Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts in 2010 to study fashion design, she moved to the U.K. and hasn’t been able to return to China since. When the couple applied for passports in order to travel to the UK to visit their daughter in 2016, the police rejected them, saying that there is no way for them to ever get their passports.
