(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Hongshu’s mother was heartbroken when she was finally allowed to see her son more than six months after he was arrested for practicing Falun Gong, an ancient mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Liu, a resident of Qishan County, Shaanxi Province, was emaciated and his severely swollen face also had injuries. A guard at the Qishan County Detention Center told his mother that Mr. Liu has been on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. But despite his serious condition, the authorities refuse to release him.

Mr. Liu, in his 50s, was arrested at home on September 27, 2020. His parents who are in their 80s, were terrified to witness the police confiscating Mr. Liu’s Falun Gong informational materials.

As Mr. Liu had been helping to care for his younger brother, who has a chronic ailment and lives with him and their parents, his arrest left his parents struggling to care for themselves and their younger son.

It’s reported that the police are preparing to submit Mr. Liu’s case to the procuratorate

Mr. Liu took up Falun Gong in 1999 and he credits the practice for curing his brain injuries sustained in a car accident ten years prior, which prevented him from finding a job or getting married. With good health, he found several jobs out-of-town. After the authorities learned that he practiced Falun Gong, they arrested him multiple times and used various torture methods in attempts to force him to renounce the practice. His parents were also intimidated and threatened by the police.
