(Minghui.org) Ms. Pan Yanchun was recently sentenced to two years for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Pan, 51, a native of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on May 9, 2020, while doing business in Shihezi City, Xinjiang Province. She was held at the Shihezi No. 1 Detention Center.
The Xinjiang Court held a hearing in January 2021 and sentenced Ms. Pan to two years in March. She is scheduled to be released on May 21, 2022.
It’s reported that the Xinjiang Political and Legal Affairs Committee, an extra-judiciary agency tasked with persecuting Falun Gong, is pressuring the authorities in Shihezi to ramp up their efforts to make local practitioners renounce their faith.
Some residential committees set up specific offices to target Falun Gong practitioners. Many practitioners in Shihezi have been harassed at home or with phone calls over the past few months. Some had their homes ransacked.
