(Minghui.org) A Shanghai resident was arrested on February 3, 2021 after she refused to sign statements to renounce her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A group of officers broke into 69-year-old Ms. Jiang Linying’s home on February 3 and ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. When she refused, the officers arrested her and ransacked her home. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, computer, and banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong (such banknotes are a way to raise awareness about the persecution, made difficult by the strict information censorship in China). She has been held at the Baoshan Detention Center since.
Ms. Jiang, a retired textile factory worker, took up Falun Gong in February 1999. She credits the practice for curing her severe asthma and she lives by Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
Because of firmly upholding Falun Gong after the communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, Ms. Jiang has been repeatedly arrested. She served two prison terms, of three and a half years and five years, respectively, as well as a labor camp term of one year and three months.
While being incarcerated, Ms. Jiang was subjected to torture, including being injected with drugs to destroy her central nervous system, brutally beaten, forced to stand for prolonged periods of time, forced to sit on a small stool in one position for extended periods of time, denied the use of the toilet, deprived of food, and forced to overeat.
