(Minghui.org) A woman from Hanzhong City Shaanxi Province, suffered seven broken ribs when the police beat her during her arrest on June 18, 2021, for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime for the past 22 years.
Ms. Zhang Junxiu was on an errand in nearby Chenggu County on June 18 when Chenggu County Domestic Security officers in plainclothes followed and arrested her. They handcuffed her without showing any ID, so Ms. Zhang resisted. They then beat her so badly that they broke seven of her ribs, six on the right side and one on the left.
The police searched Ms. Zhang and confiscated her personal belongings, including 600 yuan in cash, an mp3 player, an electric motorcycle key, a 100-yuan gift card, and an umbrella.
Ms. Zhang was taken to the interrogation room in the police station. She refused to cooperate and simply told officer He the facts about Falun Gong. She said that practicing Falun Gong was legal in China and that it was the police who violated the law by arresting innocent people without due process. Officer He laughed at her.
The police found Ms. Zhang’s address in their online database and contacted the chief of Hanzhong City Domestic Security Office, a man surnamed Zhong, who went to Chenggu County to pick Ms. Zhang up and take her back to Hanzhong. When Ms. Zhang told Zhong that she’d been illegally arrested, Zhong just ridiculed her, saying, “Why don’t you go to the procuratorate and sue officer He?”
That evening, officers He and Zhong went to Ms. Zhang’s apartment and threatened to keep Ms. Zhang in custody if her husband didn’t open the door. They ransacked the couple’s apartment without a warrant and confiscated her laptop, Falun Gong informational materials, and books.
After they released her, the police warned her husband that they intended to prosecute Ms. Zhang. Her case has now been transferred to the Zhongshanjie Police Station (her local station) and is being handled by officer Wang, who has ordered her husband to monitor her daily activities.
