(Minghui.org) A retired elementary school teacher in her 70s was sentenced to a three-year prison term on September 28, 2020, six months after being arrested for distributing materials about Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yan Xihuan, a Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province, resident, has been detained at the Shuangyashan City Detention Center since her arrest in mid-March 2020. She was beaten for shouting “Falun Dafa is good” and is emaciated. The Jianshan District Procuratorate approved her arrest on April 30, 2020, and quickly indicted her and moved her case to the Jianshan Court after the police submitted her case on June 30.
Ms. Yan has been arrested and incarcerated several times for her faith. She served three years at the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp between 2003 and 2006 and another three years in the Harbin Women’s Prison between August 2009 and 2012. The prison guards often beat her and forced her to sit on a small stool without moving for long hours. Her legs became severely swollen as a result. Because of her shouting “Falun Dafa is good,” the guards beat her shortly before she was released.
