(Minghui.org) Ms. Fu Liang was tending to her booth at a farmer's market on March 30, 2019, when a man talked her into returning to her residence. Four police officers who had been waiting outside seized her and took her to Anshan Women's Detention Center.

Ms. Fu, a 65-year-old Anshan City, Liaoning Province, resident, was targeted because she refused to renounce Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a self-improvement system that includes meditation and following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The Chinese Communist Party began to suppress the group in July 1999. Since then Ms. Fu has been subjected to various forms of persecution, including serving eight years in prison and being force-fed and mentally abuse.

Her latest arrest was preceded by seven prior arrests.

She was first arrested on December 3, 1999, when she and several other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was held in Anshan Detention Center for 15 days before being admitted to a brainwashing center for an additional 20 days. Seeing that Ms. Fu did not give in, the police then put her in Anshan Mental Hospital just before the 2000 Chinese New Year. She was force-fed unknown drugs three times a day with increased doses for nearly 10 days before her release.

Not long after she returned home, she was arrested again and detained for another 20 days. In the afternoon following her release, she was arrested for the third time and detained for 15 days. Her husband, who was not a practitioner, was held in a brainwashing center for over a month. His salary was cut by more than half, and he was also humiliated. Because the authorities continued to harass Ms. Fu after she was released, she was forced to stay away from home.

Ms. Fu's fourth arrest took place when she returned home to check on her family. The police also arrested her husband and their daughter at the same time. At Anshan Second Detention Center, the guards beat her and force-fed her. Ms. Fu went on a hunger strike and was released 17 days later.

Ms. Fu was arrested the fifth time in February 2002 for producing Falun Gong-related materials. While in detention, she wrote a complaint against former Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office for persecuting Falun Gong. The detention center director withheld her complaint and warned her to not sue any Party leaders.

In October 2002, Ms. Fu was sentenced to eight years in Liaoning Women's Prison. Prison officials initially declined to accept her due to her high blood pressure and heart disease, but they later relented due to pressure from detention center officials and the police.

In prison, Ms. Fu was forced to stand outdoors in the snow for hours at a time and was humiliated by the inmates. She was subjected to intense brainwashing sessions. Her blood pressure rose to 240 and she was hospitalized many times. She was released on medical parole in March 2006.

Ms. Fu's sixth arrest took place prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She was taken back to prison, where she was shocked with electric batons, had her fingers and nipples stabbed, and was psychologically abused. She returned home in 2010.

Her seventh arrest was in December 2013. Eight officers pretended to be utility workers and deceived her into opening the door. They ransacked her home and took her to Shenbei Police Station. When she refused to cooperate, an officer slapped her in the face. Because detention center officials refused to accept her due to her high blood pressure, she was temporarily released. In order to avoid further arrests, she left home and moved often.

Ms. Fu filed a criminal complaint in June 2015 against Jiang for persecuting Falun Gong. The complaint was submitted to both the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate.
