Imprisoned Hydraulic Engineer Denied Family Visitation for Refusing to Renounce Falun Gong
(Minghui.org) A Songming County, Yunnan Province resident serving time for practicing Falun Gong has been denied family visits since May 2018 as a result of not renouncing his faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. The practice has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Wang Zhengli, 54, the former deputy director of the Songming County Water Authority, was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison by the Xundian County Court on May 4, 2015, for distributing information exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. He was ordered to serve at Yunnan Province No.1 Prison.
Because he refused to write statements renouncing Falun Gong or admit guilt for upholding his faith, the prison revoked Mr. Wang's family's visitation privileges in May 2018 when new guards were assigned and under pressure to force practitioners to give up their belief.
The last time Mr. Wang's family saw him was on April 27, 2018. They mailed a letter to him in August 2018 and didn't receive his reply until October. The last letter they received from him was dated November 28, 2018. He cautioned them to not mention anything related to Falun Gong in their future correspondence, or the prison wouldn't allow him to receive letters anymore.
His family hasn't received any new letter from him since.
According to Falun Gong practitioners who were incarcerated at Yunnan No.1 Province Prison before, those who remain firm in their faith are subjected to torture, including savage beatings, being hung up, and solitary confinement. It's not clear whether Mr. Wang was tortured in prison.
Life Renewed by Practicing Falun Gong
As the former deputy director of the water facility, Mr. Wang received various awards from provincial and national level hydro system agencies for his technical expertise.
But he also suffered from poor health and often fainted because of his high blood pressure. Upon the recommendations of many colleagues, he joined them in the practice of Falun Gong. Within one week, he returned to good health. Although Mr. Wang had difficulty going upstairs in the past, he now could easily walk upstairs even while carrying a heavy bucket of water.
Practicing Falun Gong also helped Mr. Wang gain a new perspective on life and greatly improved his morals. People in his position often received bribes or took advantage of other opportunities that benefited them. Following Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, Mr. Wang refused to accept any bribes. His work ethic was recognized by peers and management, earning him awards almost every year.
