(Minghui.org) I was an elementary school teacher. After the persecution began I went to Beijing to appeal in 2000. Because I refused to renounce my faith, I was taken to a forced labor camp. When I was released one year later, my salary was suspended.
After my husband passed away in 2001, my child and I had no financial support. We were harassed by the local authorities as well as by my employer. They tried to force me to give up practicing Falun Dafa. I was under 24-hour surveillance. I had no money to pay for my child's tuition and we lived on support from fellow practitioners. Later, with benevolent Master's protection, we fled our hometown and lived wherever we could find shelter.
As I continued to study the Fa and improve my character, Master gave me wisdom and intelligence. Not only could I tutor elementary school students, but also junior high and high school students. All my students did very well on their exams.
Master said,
"It was Dafa—the Great Way of the universe—that created the cosmic body, the universe, life, and all of creation. Any life that turns away from Dafa is truly corrupt. Any person who can align with Dafa is truly a good person, and will be rewarded and blessed with health and happiness. And any cultivator who is able to become one with Dafa is an enlightened one—divine.”(Lunyu, Zhuan Falun)
Being Responsible to My Students
One kind practitioner let me use her apartment when I had no place to live. I did not have money, but I wanted to pay rent. She said to only pay her $100 RMB. I insisted on paying her $200 RMB, which was still well below the market price, but that was all I could afford. I didn't have money for food. I promised that I would pay her back when I was able to make some money.
The condition of the apartment was rather bad. Even the walls were soiled, but I could not afford paint.
One day, the father of a potential student came to my home. He was arrogant. His daughter, a preschooler, looked rather slow. He looked around my apartment and complained, "What kind of place is this? Can you provide my child with a bright classroom? What about an enriching play area?"
I replied calmly, "Indeed this place is very shabby. But I do a good job tutoring students, despite the surroundings. You will see the difference in your child's grades. He grabbed his daughter's hand and left.
They returned a year later with a different attitude. The father took out her midterm exam papers and showed them to me. He explained that they hadn't come back after the first visit because she hurt her hands. She was having difficulty catching up at school, even though her homeroom teacher had tutored her for a long time.
When I looked at the girl I could see that she was developmentally challenged. I felt sad because I knew the girl wanted to learn from me last time. The father said that her teacher threatened to make her repeat her grade if she did not do better on the final exams.
I agreed to tutor her. Her name was Lili (alias). I knew that since she was developmentally challenged, my tutoring would not make much difference. So I taught her to say, "Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." Her grades gradually improved. Her final exam grades were 95 marks plus 5 bonus marks for language and 86 marks for math. The math exam was particularly hard that year with the class average below 70. Her parents and teachers were amazed at her improvement.
Because there are no regulations or standards for private tutors, parents have no way of knowing which ones are good. Once a mother came and angrily complained that they had bad experiences with private tutors and wasted a lot of money with no results. She was not sure whether I was good. At this point, Lili said, “This teacher does a great job. She is very responsible.” The mother asked about her experience, was pleased, and registered her child.
I also tutored two boys who were failing in language and math before they came to me.
One of them did not even know how to read Pinyin (Romanized Chinese). After three days he was able to use Pinyin to read Grimm's Fairy Tales. His mother was very impressed. She said, “You are so good. I'm also a teacher, but I was not able to teach my own son.”
The boy got 97 marks with 17 bonus mark for his final exam. On his last day he bowed to me and said, “Thank you, teacher. My friends thought I was backwards because I did not do well in school.”
The other boy achieved excellent marks for the three subjects that he was tutored in. I had asked him to repeat “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
Grateful Parents
I had to move several times due to financial difficulties. As a result, I was not diligent in my cultivation. In 2011, I was kidnapped to the local detention center and I could not tutor my students. I went on a hunger strike and was released after 46 days.
While I was in detention, one of my students was preparing for the Secondary School Entrance Exams. I connected him with one of his previous teachers to be tutored. He did very well in the exams and got into a key secondary school. When he first came to see me, he was failing all his subjects. Everyone felt his stellar performance was unbelievable. His parents came to thank me. They pressed their palms together and bowed to me three times. They said, “Thank you very much. Without you, our son would not have succeeded.” I replied, “Please thank Falun Dafa's Master. Without his teachings, I would not be the person I am.” I helped them quit the CCP. Their business has been doing very well ever since.
The mother told me that they looked for me after I had been detained and only then did they realize that I was renting. One of her customers told her that a good tutor, who was a Falun Dafa practitioner had been taken away by the police. The customer was disappointed because she planned to have me tutor her child. She couldn't believe that such a good person was being persecuted. The mother told the customer that I had tutored her child and that I was a good tutor as well as a good person.
From Third Place at the Bottom to Third Place at the Top
Kai (alias) was developmentally challenged. Throughout elementary school his teacher picked on him every day. When the teacher lost her patience with him, he was placed in a different class to humiliate him.
When he entered junior high school, Kai was recommended to see me. He had failed his language class, and it was time to take his secondary school matriculation exams. He needed help with every subject and he had hardly enough time.
While I tutored him, I clarified the truth of Falun Dafa to him. He was receptive and quit the Young Pioneers. Afterwards he improved very quickly and became happy and confident. One of his grade school classmates was very surprised. Apparently Kai was usually third place from the bottom in grades, but now he was the third place from the top. Kai told me, “Teacher, they don’t realize it was Falun Dafa that gave me the wisdom and intelligence!”
In 2018, Kai was admitted into a university and program of his choice.
I have many other examples to tell. It was Falun Dafa that brought good fortune my me and my students. On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to thank benevolent Master. No words can express our gratitude.
