(Minghui.org) A Panjin City resident was making a phone call on June 27, 2016, when more than two dozens of agents surrounded him. Without showing any ID or search warrant, they drove him back to his home and confiscated his personal belongings.
Mr. Li Chongfeng was targeted because the phone call he was making involved telling people about the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He suspected that the police had tracked him down by using GPS technology.
It is unclear whether the police have returned any of the confiscated items, including six cell phones, one laptop, two computers, one electric scooter, more than 6,000 yuan in cash, several bank cards, more than forty Falun Gong books, and more than seventy copies of Falun Gong materials.
Mr. Li, a manager at Liaohe Oil Field's Jinzhou Oil Production Company, appeared in court several months later and was sentenced to eight years in prison. The local Jinzhou City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold his prison sentence without holding a hearing as requested.
Mr. Li’s family hired a lawyer in March 2018 to seek justice for him. The lawyer filed a motion to reconsider the case with the appeals court, which ruled not to overturn the guilty verdict.
Mr. Li, in his early 40s, is being held at the Shenyang City First Prison. He is monitored around the clock and given only one bowl of porridge to eat each day. He has lost more than 30 pounds.
