Father of U.S. Resident to Face Indictment for His Faith

October 20, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Three months after Mr. Zhang Ming was arrested for not giving up his faith in Falun Gong, the police submitted his case to the Procuratorate and attempted to press charges against him.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li Quanchen were stopped by traffic police while driving in Kuandian County, Liaoning Province on June 29, 2018. They were arrested after the police found Falun Gong materials in their car. The police later ransacked their homes and confiscated many of their personal belongings.

One month into their detention at Kuandian Detention Center, both men developed severe heart problems. Mr. Zhang's blood pressure was over 200/140 mmHg, yet the authorities have refused to provide medical care to them or grant them medical parole.

While collecting information to charge Mr. Zhang, the police harassed his 90-year-old father and asked whether he practices Falun Gong. This outraged his family members, as the elderly man had lost most of his hearing and was unable to talk clearly.

Mr. Zhang, 60, has been repeatedly arrested for his faith in Falun Gong. His wife, Ms. Xiu Jinqiu, was persecuted to death on November 28, 2013, less than three months after her last arrest. Their only daughter, Ms. Zhang Hongyu, is currently residing in the U.S. and has been trying to secure Mr. Zhang's release.
